Zenith was founded by Georges Favre-Jacot, a clockmaker of 22 years of age. The company was established in 1865 and distinguished itself from other watchmakers by creating its own movements. Within 10 years, one third of the Le Locle, Switzerland population was employed by Zenith which was manufacturing pocket watches at the time. The company has been winning awards for its capabilities as a watchmaker as early as 1896, when it won a gold medal at the Swiss National Exhibition. Today, Zenith watches are still extremely popular and sought after.
