TAG Heuer LINK Automatic Chronograph 43 mm in Steel and Rose Gold (Ref CAT2050.FC6322)

Written by Debra Stoddard

The TAG Heuer LINK Automatic Chronograph introduced this year in Switzerland is a show stopper.  The steel and 18K rose gold plated chronograph on a brown alligator strap is a more refined appearance compared to the steel bracelet editions so popular to the LINK collection.  This is an ideal watch for someone who loves the sport features of a chronograph, but their lifestyle requires a more refined touch at the office or dinners.  However, just because it is a distinguished chronograph on a strap, it doesn’t mean that it shrinks on your wrist like other dainty dress watches.  It boasts a statuesque 43 mm case diameter.  This isn’t your grandfathers dress watch; it’s your new hybrid dress watch.  It is larger than many sport watches, but the steel and rose gold hands, markers, and indexes compliment the brown alligator strap in a manly yet rugged way.  TAG Heuer went all the way with this chronograph.  It has an oversized sub-dial at the 9 o’clock position making it easy to see with a quick glance.  It even has a date feature at 3 o’clock. The luminescent markers make it easy to read day or night.

The high polished, stainless steel case is 43 mm in diameter. The 18 k rose gold bezel is beautiful.  You’ll especially love how TAG Heuer completed the look using the rose gold pushdown buttons and screw-in crown for the chronograph and stem features.  They even went a step further by building up the area around the crown and chronograph pushers with stainless steel.  While this watch is water resistant up to 100 meters, the brown alligator strap with brown stitches does not want to go for a dive, but you do not need to worry if it gets splashed.

Pros:

  • Automatic chronograph with a date
  • Oversized sub-dial for the running seconds hand
  • Extra protection for the crown and chronograph pushers with the built up area on the case
  • Handsome watch
  • Excellent price at $6,500
  • Safety pushbuttons on the steel folding clasp help with the breakdown of the leather over time
  • Very easy to read chronograph

Cons:

  • Date window is small
  • Water resistance is great, but with a leather strap, it isn’t as beneficial as it would be on a steel bracelet
  • 18 k rose gold is plated up to 5 N, but it would be more expensive if it were solid rose gold.
  • Not available until May of 2013

Things to Avoid:

Do not leave the watch siting for long periods of time without wearing it.  The automatic movement needs to stay lubricated.  Just like a car that sits in the garage for a long time stalls before starting and parts get worn out, your watch is the same.  The movement needs to be oiled by wearing or winding it.  If you don’t, the seals break down over time, and the movement dries out.

-Make sure the watch fits on your wrist properly.  If it doesn’t, then it will not be able to keep accurate time.  Automatic movements are powered by the movement of your wrist.  If you watch circles around on your wrist, then the movement is not getting the power it needs to keep the watch wound.  It will lose time if it is not sized correctly.

The TAG Heuer LINK Automatic Chronograph in steel and rose gold is a handsome watch.  It is sporty enough to use any time, but its elegance is respectable at the office, business meetings, or a formal event.  It is a great price for an automatic chronograph.  This is the type of watch a father can pass down to future generations.

TAG Heuer LINK Lady Calibre 7 Automatic 34.5 mm Full Diamond Bezel & White Mother-of-Pearl Diamond Dial (Ref WAT2314.BA0956)

Written by Debra Stoddard

The new TAG Heuer LINK ladies automatic watch is the epitome of elegance.  Its design attracts women with all budgets.  The watch itself has over three-quarter carats of diamonds, and not just any diamonds, it has top quality diamonds.  They clarity ranges from VVS-VS quality.  There is no guarantee of what the mother of pearl on each dial will look like, but white mother of pearl complements practically every wardrobe and skin tone.  It’s a youthful and timeless touch to add to any timepiece.  The mother of pearl does not distract from being able to read time either.  The diamond markers make it easy to see the time, and you look fabulous while doing it.  The 34.5 mm case diameter is a universal size, which looks great on practically anyone’s wrist.  It is also water resistant up to 100 meters.  Now, you can look amazing and wear a completely functional piece of jewelry at the same time.

Pros:

  • Beautiful design
  • Over .90 cttw between the diamond dial and diamond bezel
  • VVS-VS quality diamonds
  • Natural mother of pearl dial
  • 34.5 mm diameter is an excellent size
  • Anti-reflective treated sapphire crystal
  • Date window at 6 o’clock
  • Water resistant up to 100 meters (as long as the crown is screwed down and there are no chips or large nicks in the sapphire crystal)
  • Polished screw down crown which ensures water resistance
  • Folding clasp with safety push buttons
  • Rounded edges on the stainless steel bracelet make it very comfortable
  • Automatic movement
  • Great price at $7,400

Cons:

  • Since mother of pearl is a natural gemstone, each mother of pearl looks different.
  • The watch is an automatic movement.  This means if you do not wear it, it will not keep time unless you put it on a watch winder.
  • Date window is small and hard to read
  • Over time the bracelet gets scratched up, but when you send it in for servicing, it will come back nicely polished.

The TAG Heuer LINK Ladies automatic watch is a beautiful watch, and it makes for a great every day, functional piece of jewelry.  It has excellent diamonds and a beautiful mother of pearl dial.  The diamond quality alone makes it a great catch at $7,200.  I would recommend this watch to anyone that wants to celebrate life or a special occasion with something that can be worn with jeans and a t-shirt or an elegant dress.

TAG Heuer AQUARACER Calibre 5 Automatic 41mm Dive Watch

Written by Debra Stoddard

A diver’s dream is what you get with TAG Heuer’s AQUARACER (Ref: WAN2110.BA0822)While most divers have gear that will accurately tell them their depth, pressure, and time under water, the AQUARACER offers a manual backup for divers.  First, it is water resistant up to 300 meters. Master divers usually do not surpass 30 meters, so unless you plan to be the anchor for a nuclear attack submarine, you should be just fine.

Automatic movement means that you don’t have a battery to replace- it is powered by the motion of your wrist.  Keep in mind, if you set it on your dresser for a weekend, you will need to manually wind it.  Otherwise, the watch will not be able to run accurately.  Another great benefit with the AQUARACER is the ability to have a date aperture.  It’s located at the 3 o’clock position.  This watch is extremely easy to read.  The hour and minute hands are luminescent, as well as all of the dots and faceted 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock markers.  This means even in the depths of the ocean or walking to your car on a dark night, you will be able to see the time down to the second.  Even the orange triangle-shaped running second hand has a white luminescent marker.

The case diameter is 41 mm.  It is a large watch with alternating high polish and fine brushed polishing.  The scratch resistant, double anti-reflective treated sapphire crystal protects the dial from damage.  The crown features a polished screw-in mechanism to ensure water resistance, along with the screw-in case back.  TAG Heuer made sure to implement features to protect your watch and movement from damage.

Pros:

  • Easy to read
  • Very useful function for divers
  • Great price
  • Date feature
  • 300 meter water resistance
  • Folding clasp with a safety push button release

Cons:

  • The bezel isn’t ceramic.  This means the aluminum ring will need to be replaced when it is sent for servicing because it isn’t scratch resistant.
  • Servicing needs to be sent to TAG Heuer which means your watch will be gone between 8-12 weeks, and the service runs about $500.  (Essentially, it’s an oil change for your watch, and it usually only needed about every 5 years.)

Things to Avoid:

  • Wear:
    • Do not leave the watch siting for long periods of time without wearing it.  The automatic movement needs to stay lubricated.  Just like a car that sits in the garage for a long time stalls before starting and parts get worn out, your watch is the same.  The movement needs to be oiled by wearing or winding it.  If you don’t, the seals break down over time, and the movement dries out.
    • Make sure the watch fits on your wrist properly.  If it doesn’t, then it will not be able to keep accurate time.  Automatic movements are powered by the movement of your wrist.  If you watch circles around on your wrist, then the movement is not getting the power it needs to keep the watch wound.  It will lose time if it is not sized correctly.

The TAG Heuer AQUARACER Automatic dive watch is an excellent gift or purchase for any rugged, sporty male.  In fact, I have even seen a few stylish females purchase it for themselves as an all day, every day watch.  It’s a tough watch that can take a beating.  If you have too many black dial watches, it is also available with a blue dial and bezel.   The price is $2,500, and very solid choice for this price.

TAG Heuer’s CARRERA Calibre 1887 Automatic Chronograph Date, Ref. CAR2013.BA0799

Written by Debra Stoddard

The new TAG Heuer Carrera 1887 Automatic Chronograph Date Ref. CAR2013.BA0799 watch was an exclusive boutique timepiece, but now, it is now available for worldwide distribution.  It is a stylish and handsome watch.  The anthracite dial has a sunray effect which looks amazing with the rose gold colored Arabic numbers.  The dial has three chronograph sub-dials.  The chronograph minute sub-dial is located at the 12 o’clock position.  The running second sub-dial is located at the 9 o’clock position.  At the 6 o’clock position, the chronograph hour sub-dial is located and the date window.

The case itself is a 43 mm polished steel case accompanied by a thin high polished bezel.  The scratch-resistant and anti-reflective curved sapphire crystal protects the dial.  The scratch resistant sapphire case back allows you to view the automatic chronograph while it is hard at work.

There are two options for bracelet.  Keep in mind the reference number of the watch will be different if you opt for a leather bracelet versus a steel bracelet.  The steel bracelet has a folding clasp with a safety push button mechanism.  In the center of the bracelet, it has an alternating high polished and fine-brushed finish.  The outer links display a fine-brushed polish and polished edges.  This bracelet is referred to as the Grand CARRERA bracelet.

Pros:

The timepiece is an elegant watch.  The rose gold colored numbers on the dial make it very attractive.  At $6,200, it is a great price for a Swiss made chronograph.  The skeleton back is a desirable quality if you enjoy seeing the movement of the watch.  It isn’t a dainty watch.  The 43 mm case gives a large presence.  It has a water resistance of 100 meters.  The two bracelet options allow for it to be a dinner watch or a sport watch.

Cons:

The masculine size of this watch will swallow a thin or small frame wrist.  There is nothing protecting the crown or the push buttons for the chronograph. The safety push buttons on the steel clasp need readjustment over time.

This is a great watch for individuals that appreciate a Swiss made timepiece.  It is very easy to read, and the dial is quite striking.  If you would prefer a strap versus a bracelet, the reference number for an anthracite alligator strap is CAR2013.FC6313.

2013 TAG Heuer Aquaracer 500m Calibre 72 Countdown Chronograph Review

The countdown chronograph is the first of the ceramic 500m Chronograph models. The Countdown function, or otherwise known us the “Regatta” function, has been seen previously in other TAG Heuer watches, but shows a slight variation with this watch. Unlike previous chronographs, this watch introduces the “5-segment” display window seen in previous models of the brand. The design is similar to the 1982 original Aquaracer watch, which is when Jack Heuer launched the Heuer 2000 series. The first watch by Heuer sold that featured the “Regatta” function was the Aquastar Regate, which was first made available in the 1960s. In the 1970s, Heuer released Autavia-based Heuer Regatta. The “Regatta” or Countdown function is designed with the idea of yacht racing in mind. It splits time across 5 windows that each show 1 minute.

The Aquaracer 500m has case similar to the Aquaracer 300m series, except for a thicker case back and bezel. The bezel features over-sized numerals which are there more fore function than aesthetics. The case measures 43 millimeters in diameter. Many of the components of the Aquaracer have been made to ensure water resistance to a greater depth. This case is water resistant to 500 metes or 1660 feet. This round case is made of stainless steel and has brushed and polished finish. Inside this case is Swiss made movement that powers the watch. It is a self winding, automatic caliber. Other features of this watch include a ceramic bezel and a helium-escape valve.

The black dial of this Aquaracer 500m Calibre 72 countdown chronograph is quite attractive. The horizontal streaks on the dial nicely contrast the circular pattern of the two counters. The two counters are located opposite each other on the three and nine o’clock positions. The date window is located below the 12 o’clock position with the TAG Heuer logo located above the six o’clock position. Flashes of blue can also be seen in this dial creating another visual contrast when looking at the watch face.
