Bvlgari Assioma Womens Watch AAW36D1WL by Elizabeth Lowry

Diamonds are forever. Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. Or as Mae West once said, “I never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number you get in a diamond.” It seems as if everyone from Elizabeth Taylor to Dolly Parton has had something to say about diamonds….and we’ve all heard a lot of hype about them, but when it comes to cliches, this Bulgari Assioma women’s watch certainly doesn’t fit the bill. With a sparkling line of diamonds framing a mother-of-pearl dial on the left and right, this timepiece is nothing if not distinctive looking. If you are not too dazzled by the glittering gems, you will see that the bezel on this watch is stamped with the Bulgari logo above and below the dial and includes only no numerals; simply small silver-gold indexes. This timepiece also features a white gold casing and an ardillon buckle. For those not in the know, an ardillon buckle is also referred to as a “thumbnail” buckle—although, when discussing a luxury watch, the French word tends to sound a bit more sophisticated. The truth is that an ardillon or thumbnail buckle is simply a basic buckle that curves in the direction of your wrist as you fasten your watch. An another interesting feature of this watch is the fact that the strap is made of what Bulgari calls “technological satin.” This is basically a synthetic material that looks just like satin but is a lot more durable.

Pros: In my view, the fact that this watch has a quartz movement is a huge plus, as quartz requires little to no maintenance. It is about as reliable as you can get.

Cons: The mother-of-pearl dial may mean that the time is hard to read in bright light, particularly since there is no mention of an anti-reflective treatment on the watch’s crystal. Further, this watch only has a minute and hour hand, meaning that if you like to count seconds, this watch is probably not for you. It is also unlikely that this watch is waterproof, so you will need to remember to remove it before bathing.

This watch seems to be a dress watch, and as such, its manufacturers probably does not expect it to be worn every day. Definitely keep this in mind before you decide whether or not you are prepared to spend the $17,800.

Is this Bvlgari Assioma women’s watch actually a timepiece in its own right or a golden bracelet that just happens to tell the time? I like the ambiguity of this pink gold creation. There is something appealing about the idea of secretly wearing a watch—of looking as if one has no concern for time, yet being able to keep track of it. This Bvlgari Assioma timepiece could very easily be mistaken for a simple, yet sophisticated piece of jewelry. In essence, it is watch disguised as an 18 karat pink gold bracelet. What’s not to like? It can be worn with an evening gown without looking out of place—and it also could probably be worn for less formal occasions as a means by which to “dress up” an outfit. The black dial on this watch is small and discreet—so discreet that if the bracelet is turned around so that the dial sits on the inside of the wearer’s wrist, one need not know that it is there at all. Further, the bezel on this watch is stamped with the Bvlgari logo above and below the dial and includes only two numerals; an Arabic 12 and 6. The bracelet itself is made of closely set gold links.

Pros: In my view, the fact that this watch has a quartz movement is a huge plus, as quartz requires little to no maintenance. A quartz movement is about as reliable as you can get. I also like the way that this watch presents as a bracelet with the added bonus of a discreet watch-face.

Possible cons: Because the watch face is so discreet and because the indexes are so small, consumers may find it hard to read. But then again, this is not exactly the kind of watch that you would be wearing for time-keeping at the Grand Prix. For some consumers, another con might be that gold is a soft metal, meaning that the bracelet may scratch easily. There is also no mention of water resistance or of the durability of the crystal covering the dial.

Is this watch worth its $17700 price tag? I would say that if you are a bracelet-person who likes pink gold jewelry and attends lots of formal events, this watch could be exactly what you’ve been looking for. Furthermore, if you choose to wear this timepiece only for formal occasions, the reliability of a quartz movement should work in your favor.

Bvlgari Bvlgari Women’s Watch BB26BGLD/N Review

by Elizabeth Lowry

The Bvlgari Bvlgari Women’s BB26BGLD/N is new on the market and will no doubt be a crowd pleaser. This watch looks sensible, but sumptuous at the same time. The 18K yellow gold casing gleams like thick honey catching the light—and the bezel and the folding buckle on the strap are fashioned from the same honey-colored gold. The logo BVLGARI is stamped twice on the bezel; both above and below the dial. This watch seems to embody the mythos of Bvlgari in that it speaks of a European appreciation for longevity. Objects will remain in the world long after we are gone, so why not make them as beautiful as possible?

And the juxtaposition of gold and black is indeed striking. The watch’s dial is black and only two gold Arabic numerals are marked on it: the 12 and the 6. Remaining hour indexes are also represented in gold. The wrist strap is made of polished black alligator skin. Further, this 26mm Bvlgari creation displays hours, minutes and the date, and it has a quartz movement.

Pros: The gold in this watch is of excellent quality and is very attractive. A classic timepiece such as this one should indicate promising resale potential. The watch is also waterproof to the extent that you could shower in it, but that’s obviously not recommended!

Cons: The exclusively black and gold color scheme of this watch may cause it to be difficult to match up with a variety of outfits. Alligator skin is durable, but leather straps do tend to wear out and fade with persistent exposure to the sun. The hour indexes may also be a little difficult to see on this dial, particularly in bright sunlight.

A Bvlgari watch hardly belongs in a “throw-away” culture. It’s meant to be preserved. But what does that mean when it comes to actually wearing the watch itself? Of course the watch should be worn, but you probably don’t want to subject it to a lot of outdoor frolic, otherwise you’ll be looking to get it repaired far sooner than you might have anticipated. However, if you are not someone who subjects your watch to frequent beatings at the hands of the elements, something tells me that a Bvlgari timepiece under $9,000 has got to be a good buy.

Bvlgari Bvlgari Women’s Watch BB26BSS/12N Review

by Elizabeth Lowry

First things first: The Bvlgari Bvlgari Women’s BB26BSS/12N is made of stainless steel….and I’m a sucker for stainless steel. It doesn’t rust, tarnish or corrode. It’s as lustrous as silver, but is pretty much hassle-free as you don’t have to polish it. It’s close to impossible to have an allergic reaction to it. It can be sterilized. It doesn’t conduct electricity, turn funky colors or flake away. It doesn’t chip or scratch. It’s 100% recyclable…and it was used to build the top of the Chrysler building in Manhattan. You get the idea.

I am a particular fan of stainless steel watches because when I buy a timepiece (especially an expensive one), I don’t want to take it off. I want to be comfortable wearing it in the shower, swimming, at the gym and so on. I want a watch that is as functional as it is attractive…and this watch meets those criteria. This Bvlgari women’s watch sports a stainless steel bracelet that is seamlessly tapered and has a discreet folding clasp; two features that lend it a pleasantly feminine air. Some might find the dial a little bit small–the watch case is only 26mm–but the hour indicators are clearly marked with diamond indexes that provide a vivid, yet elegant contrast with the watch’s black dial. The dial is described as having a “clou de Paris treatment,” which (for those not in the know) means that the minutes on the dial are represented by tiny triangles known as “clous,” or literally “nails.”

The watch runs on a quartz movement and, the Bvlgari logo is stamped twice on the bezel. Personally, I could do without logos, but this one isn’t too ostentatious and you can’t really see it unless you look closely. The dial is what really draws your attention–which is as it should be. In addition to offering the hours and minutes, this watch also provides you with the date and is waterproof up to 30 meters, which is almost 100 feet.

The Bvlgari list price for this watch is $5,700, although it can probably be found for less from other authorized dealers. To me, this women’s watch is worth the price if you are looking for a timepiece that you can wear all the time in multiple contexts. For my money, it’s every bit as attractive and (possibly twice) as durable as watches that sell for twice the price.

Bvlgari Bvlgari Womens Watch BB33WGLDAUTO/N Review

by Erin Brogan

Do you want to appear as ageless as Demi Moore in Margin Call? Start by purchasing the Swiss-made, classic Bvlgari Bvlgari Womens Watch BB33WGLDAUTO/N.

  • 18k yellow gold
  • Water-resistant
  • Anti-reflective crystal
  • Calendar
  • Power Reserve
  • Brown Crocodile Bracelet
  • Easy to read
  • Automatic movement

The flashy yellow gold of the bezel and crown will immediately catch your eye as it glistens in the sunlight. The bezel is engraved with Bvlgari’s signature double name encircling the dial. The concept for the Bvlgari-bvlgari unforgettable design began in 1977.

Inside of the bezel houses a sapphire, scratch-resistant crystal covering the dial. You can be sure, with its anti-reflective nature, that you aren’t unknowingly blinding the driver next to you on the highway. The whitish silver textured dial displays the date in a small square box in place of the three o’clock marking. Large golden, very legible numbers are presented at the 12:00 and 6:00. The other digits are notched with giant yellow-gold rectangular lines with smaller, thin, black markings indicating the in between minutes read by two gold stick hands for the hours and minutes and a thinner second hand. In the middle of the dial, Bvlgari bares its logo and the movement of the watch.

The watch is powered by a 42-hour power reserve using an automatic movement. This prevents you from having to reset the timepiece if you forget to wind it. This wristwatch is also water-resistant. It aids with every day spillage or when you are running to catch the train and forget your umbrella in the middle of a downpour.

Wrap the 7-inch bracelet around your wrist and feel its smooth, textured touch. Brown crocodile leather makes up the bulk of the treated straps. They connect in the back using a simple, resizeable gold clasp to adjust to your bone structure.

Bvlgari hosted an event, funding several non-profit agencies, in which many celebrities attended. Demi Moore, the timeless choice movie star, ceasing to age from the start of her career to her recent big breakup with Ashton Kutcher. Several other celebrities came out to support the night including Spiderman‘s girl-next-door, Kirsten Dunst, and P.S. I Love You‘s Scottish hottie, Gerard Butler.

  • 30/100ft water resistant
  • Automatic-Only if you are a frequent user
  • Price

A negative turn to the water resistancy of this watch is that you cannot take it swimming or diving or surfing. The resistancy is not meant for beach recreations, so if you are a water-sports aficionada, you may want to look elsewhere or leave this fashion piece at home.
Listed at $9400, this watch falls smack dab in the middle of Bvlgari’s usual wristwatch prices. It is on the high-end, but you are purchasing the name, assurance of quality and a designer look.

The other downfall lies in the automatic movement the watch is based off of. If you tend to purchase many timepieces as more of a fashion statement and swap them as often as you change your socks, you will have to reset the clock when you go to wear it again. The automatic, self-winding feature works while you are wearing the watch. A weight transferred around and starts the rewind process. If it is left in a drawer, the automatic reset will not be able to function as it was made to do. Keep this in mind when you make your final purchasing decision.

Overall the Bvlgari Bvlgari Womens Watch BB33WGLDAUTO/N is that classic, pearl-matching, age-old look you can count on to begin your own Demi Moore transformation into an ageless temptation towards your fans. The downfalls are few, and the quality of the manufacturer is top-notch.
