New Watch: Glycine Airman Base 22 “Mystery” Watch

Glycine is one of the pioneers of aviation watches and those that frequently travel. Glycine introduced and started producing the Airman in 1953, which is the watch introduced multiple time-zone watches to the world. It was developed in flight between Bangkok and Calcutta. The Glycine Airman Base 22 Mystery watch is unique and beautiful watch. It combines the colors grey and black with hints of color in a very subtle way to create a watch with great design and look. Glycine has since continued to make aviation watches that are highly regarded and sought after.

The watch comes in a 42 millimeters black PVD case. Inside this case is a rhodanised ETA 2893 movement that powers this watch. The front of this case is covered with sapphire crystal while the exhibition case back is made of mineral crysal. It is water resistant to 20 atm. The “Purist” version of this watch displays two time zones while the “GMT” version displays three time zones with a red hand. The all steel bezel is also PVD treated and has triangular markers and numerals with grey etched surfaces.

The 24-hr dial of this watch is a dark matte charcoal grey with steel blue numerals, with the 24 and 12 hour markers being slightly different in that they are light grey. Additionally, there are rectangular and circular grey markers around the dial that have applied lume. The hour, minute, and second hands are glossy black with grey lume. The GMT hand is in bold red and stands out very prominently against the darker background. All the colors complement each other well. This watch is currently priced at $2350.
