Movado premieres new watches

The Movado Master is the brands most recent design

The slick and stylish Movado Master

Movado has a new gorgeous line of watches that are sure something to brag about. The Movado Master is so bold and sharp, architecturally oriented and yet stylish enough for the pampered. Movado ahs really taken it to the next level, converging many of their different ideas from other watches and watch designs which prove to be popular, producing this one strikingly beautiful timepiece.

The architectural aspects of the watch are clear expressions of the Bauhaus movement. The iconic Museum dial is used, albeit in slightly a different style. Following this design pattern, door-style hinges are used, adding to the industrial look while providing great comfort for the wrist wearing it.

The watch’s dial can be either white or black and is decorated with luminescent custom made hands. The dot at the twelve is a button like design with a convex center.

The circle of the watch is slightly off to add to the intriguing design and the inner pattern is similar to that of the strap.

Encircling the face is a bezel which is set with either double row diamonds or sapphire, adding to the class and glamour of the watch.

There is so much more to describe this watch. Every inch of space is filled with thought and master design.

Just looking at it could compel someone to buy it.

Try!

Filtering authentic watches from others qualitatively

An authentic watch

A Rolex is costly, but an authentic one will last a long time

So you want to buy a watch. Who doesn’t? Wristwatches have been a celebrated item of garb since they were first introduced a century ago. Some people view them as a mere accessory to just add to a look, but others see it as an item that becomes one’s trademark; in a sense it becomes your defining look. With this in mind, you want to make sure you browse through only authentic, higher class watches.

The price range in watches is very diverse and you need to take care to carefully choose your most treasured item.

Quality is a huge factor in buying a watch. The brand names which decorate many watches are not just there to let the buyer show off their expensive attire, but also claim to be a seal of approval and reassurance that your watch is precious qualitatively. You want to know that you are getting connected to a piece that will be with you for a long time. Imagine buying a dog you knew was going to die the next year. How depressive, right? Well, that’s the same with watches. Don’t buy a watch that’s bound to break shortly after buying.

This is why so many have opted to buying more expensive brands of timepieces even though they don’t consider themselves to be huge spenders in other areas.

Omega Vancouver 2010 Seamaster watch a perfect timepiece for the Games

omega vancouver 2010 seamaster

The Vancouver Olympics may be over, but that doesn’t mean Omega watch’s contribution to the games is.  Omega began their long history with the Olympics during the 1932 Los Angeles games and has acted as the official timekeepers of the games ever since then.  For the 2010 Winter Games, they supplied 220 timekeeping professionals and engineers, as well as 250 tons of equipment to insure all time measurements were accurate.  Omega also made sure not to leave out all the fans of the games; keeping with the tradition of making a commemorative timepiece, Omega has created the Vancouver 2010 Seamaster.

Based off Omega’s popular Seamaster watch, the Vancouver 2010 is an excellent representation of the Olympic Games.  The iconic Olympic rings are found on the back end of the second hand.  The caseback not only features the Olympic city, year, and symbol, but also the image found on every medal given in the 2010 games.  The watch also boasts a self-winding chronometer movement and helium escape valve.

Other notable features of the Omega Vancouver 2010 Seamaster watch include a red unidirectional bezel and date window at the 3 o’clock position.  It has a domed scratch resistant sapphire crystal that has received anti-reflective treatment on the inside.  The watch is also water resistant to 300M.

Cartier watch that bares it all

Cartier Watches are undoubtedly some of the finest watches money can buy, and the Santos 100 Skeleton is no exception.  A modern representation of the partnership forged by Louis Cartier and Alberto Santos-Dumont back in 1904, this timepiece is both a mechanical and visual marvel to behold.

The star of this watch is Cartier’s mechanical 9611 MC movement.  Comprised of 138 components and 20 jewels, the movement is delicately and painstakingly finished by hand.  The upper bridgework alone takes 15 hours to complete.  Such care is reflected in qualities such as a 72 hour power reserve, which allows the watch to maintain outstanding accuracy.  Each movement is individually identified on the back of the watch.

Cartier does not let this fantastic mocartier 100 skeletonvement hide behind a typical watch dial and back.  Instead, a skeletonized bridge adapted from the Santos case houses the movement.  Made from 950 ‰ palladium, the case is formed into Roman numerals, creating a truly unique visual presentation that is both striking and easy to read.  Complementing the case are sword-shaped blue steel hands.

Other features of the Cartier Santos 100 Skeleton watch include an alligator skin strap, sapphire crystals on both the front and back of the case, and a triple adjustable folding clasp made from 18k white gold and palladium.  The watch is also water resistant up to 30 meters.

Breitling for Bentley’s Limited Series holds true to its name

Breitling watches are without a doubt highly desirable timepieces.  So how can the maker of some of the finest luxury watches make their products even more desirable?  Simple: team up with Bentley, maker of some of the finest ultra-luxury vehicles on the planet

breitling for bentley red gold limited

Red Gold Limited, 100 pieces set

The latest models of watches in this luxury partnership are the Bentley GMT 2009 Limited Series.  Brietling for Bentley spared no expense when creating this extremely limited collection and each watch is a testament to the superior refinement of both brands.

Beginning with the most available of the set at 100 pieces, the Red Gold Limited Bentley GMT comes with a bronze dial and red accented hands.  Its brother, also called the Red Gold Limited, is a set of 50 pieces.  It comes with diamonds set into the strap attachments and at the hour markers, as well as either a natural or azure mother-of-pearl dial.  Next in the series is the White Gold Limited.  Only amounting to 25 pieces, this watch features the same diamond settings and dial choices as the 50 piece Red Gold Limited.  The final watch in the series is also called the White Gold Limited.  This timepiece distinguishes itself by being set with baguette-cut diamonds and having a diamond-pave dial; understandably, this watch is a set of only 10 pieces.

Movado watches feature the boldest white

Movado’s latest collection of watches has been titled “Bold.”  The label is fitting, as the collection features some of the Movado bold chronographmost striking watches on the market.  Case in point: the 03600011 Chronograph men’s watch.

The Bold Chronograph is an attention grabber.  Movado made everything on this watch the cleanest, starkest white possible; even the people snowed in all winter will look slightly tan.  Underneath the outstanding visual appeal lies a well-crafted watch.  Its 43.5 mm case is made from a high-tech composite PVD stainless steel and is completed with stainless steel inserts, crown, and pushers.  The white dial is offset by silver hands and the soleil dot that marks all Movado timepieces.  Within the dial are the three chronograph dials, each one set with dial rings that match the outer time ring.  A date window sits at the 6 o’clock position.

The strap of the Bold Chronograph is white leather and is lined in purple.  It boasts a k1 metalized sapphire scratch resistant crystal that is treated with an antireflective coating.  It also features a high quality Swiss quartz chronograph movement.

The Movado Bold Chronograph men’s watch is the perfect watch for those guys looking to catch the attention of a room with just a flick of a wrist.  This watch is undeniably sleek, perfect for a casual night on the town.

A case for authentic watches

breitling bentley

Breitling Bentley

It’s not hard to understand why some people would choose to by a replica of an authentic watch.  A TAG Heuer Aquaracer Calibre 5 costs roughly a grand, while a Breitling Bentley is almost 100 hundred times that.  Even a savvy buyer looking for a genuine watch on the used market knows it will cost him at least a few hundred dollars.  Because of the high cost associated with luxury brand watches, a replica seems like the perfect deal: a chance to wear a Rolex or Omega watch for a fraction of the price either cost.

What these seemingly smart shoppers miss is that there’s a reason authentic watches come with a high price tag.  Watches that carry a luxury name are hand-crafted under stringent quality controls, feature accurate movements, and are made from the finest materials.  Replicas, on the other hand, feature inferior movements, cheaper materials, inconsistencies, and can even have contaminants like hairs trapped underneath the crystal.

With all of the inaccuracies and inconsistencies that come with replica watches, it’s easy to say that you get what you pay for.  But there is one other thing to consider when looking at the authentic versus replica decision: people who wear authentic watches have the satisfaction of knowing that the watch on their wrist is the real deal, and the people who wear them know this can’t be underestimated or understated.

Watch made for computer hackers

EZ430-Chronos

Texas Instrument's programmable watch, the EZ430-Chronos

Software developers and hardware enthusiasts rejoice.  Texas Instrument, makers of every calculator owned by students ages 8 to 80, have made a watch that you can quite literally hack.  The EZ430-Chronos was designed by Texas Instrument as a promotional product for their MS430 line of microcontrollers and offers a fantastic amount of user control over the way the watch functions.

For starters, the EZ430-Chronos watch features a 96 segment LCD display, giving wearers a digital readout that’s large and clear.  Taking a page out of Apple’s book, the watch has a 3-axis accelerometer for motion sensing, just like the iPhone.  It also has onboard pressure, temperature, and battery voltage sensors.  These sensors allow the watch to function as an altimeter, barometer, and compass if the wearer so chooses.

While these features are all nice, the real fun of the EZ430-Chronos watch is found in its ability to be paired wirelessly to transceiver devices.  Its wireless radio interface allows the watch to be paired with equipment like heart rate monitors and pedometers.  This means that wearers who want to monitor their health or fitness can do so right on their watch (provided they know a bit about programming).  It can also work as a data logger for those who need to keep their data on them at all times

The EZ430-Chronos watch comes with the source codes for time, date, alarm, stopwatch, sensor readings, heart rate monitor and fitness interfaces, and two wireless protocols included.  Also included is a USB programmer, IDE, and IDA C compiler (the software needed for programming) to get wearers started.  Given the unique and wide-ranging functionality of the watch, the only bad part about it may be that its water resistance is only 30 meters.

Oh Louis, Louis: A Ridiculous New Watch for Men and Women

Why in the world would you buy a watch that didn’t tell time? We know that fashion speaks loudly, but how can it be that Louis Vuitton actually produced a then (supposedly) immediately sold out of a new watch called the Tambour Mysterieuse? Men’s watches are available in steel and women’s watches come in either steel or gold, and although this watch may be a technical masterpiece –  the calibre in the center appears to be floating –  it doesn’t do anything basic, like tell you if you’re going to be late for work. But I guess if you can afford to buy one of these men’s or women’s watches, you probably don’t work.tambour mysterieuse

The Tambour Mysterieuse is not the first watch made by LV, but its caliber, the LV115, is the first to be developed by luxury goods brand Louis Vuitton. Sticking to the whole “mystery” concept, the watch features minute and second hands that sit on transparent, moving discs, so you can’t really see them, which again means you have no idea what time it is. And even though some call this caliber an example of  “horologic magic”, consisting of 115 components, at a price said to be between $250,000 and $265,000, how do you justify actually buying one?

Apparently the Tambour Mysterieuse line is so exclusive, that they are available only by special order, at which point you are given the option of purchasing it in steel or yellow gold and with diamond, rubies or sapphires. You can even get the rotor engraved with your initials. Ooh la la.

If you’re a woman considering a man’s luxury watch or a man considering a woman’s luxury watch, or any combination thereof, we can recommend many more brand name options at a mere fraction of the cost as this Louis Vuitton watch, and all come with the upside of answering you when you ask: Quelle heure est-il ?

Retro vs. Modern Luxury Watch Design

Cartier WatchWhen it comes to luxury watch design, the fashion world has very contrasting views on what is hot and what is not. Some fashion designers prefer modern watch designs with sleek angles and smooth curves. Others prefer more classic square cases with Roman numeral dials. Classic watches such as Rolex and Cartier tend to fall along more traditional watch design formats. Blunt right angles, bulky cases with symmetrical features and silver-gold bracelets are characteristic of this style.

Modern-design watches such as Omega, Tag Heuer and Gucci incorporate asymmetrical, ergonomic angle schemes which challenge traditional visual aesthetics. The Gucci 103 collection for example, has a case which looks like an abstract oval. Its dials vary from champagne gold with flower patterns, to silver-diamond dials on a Mother Of Pearl background. Omega design commemorative watches for the Olympics, James Bond movies, and the legendary Moon Watch, which was the only watch ever worn on the moon. Their time pieces have bulky cases, yet curved edges with innovative bracelet styles. The Tag Heuer Carerra watch has one of the most contemporary outlines, and modern dials. The chronograph version has a dial which mirrors a racing car’s dashboard and a variety of straps with spherical carvings.

More classic watches such as the Cartier Santos 100 have traditional leather straps, with deployment buckles. Their case is almost perfectly square, and a Roman numeral dial is standard on all collections. Rolex watches also incorporate Roman numeral dials for many of their models. Classic watches are also a better option when attending sophisticated social gatherings or business meetings. They portray class, taste and most importantly distinction.

Whichever design suits you best, keep in mind, not all watches should be worn in any circumstance. Some classic designs are appropriate at a cocktail gathering, while other more modern ones are a better fashion statement at social meetings.
