In golf mode, Approach S3 uses satellites to list nearby courses using its preloaded and regularly updated information on over 27000 golf courses. The watch comes with these courses loaded so there is no need for additional download or subscription. It updates based on golfer’s actual real-time location. Once a course has been selected, it provides distances to the front, back and middle of the green and to the doglegs on high-resolution touchscreen. The 128 x 128 pixel, monochrome LCD touchscreen, which works with gloves on, allows user to adjust pin placement. The Green View feature, which is unique to the Approach S3, allows golfer to see the current green’s layout. Measure shot feature allows player to see exactly how far a shot went. Another feature of this watch is the layup distances feature, which shows the golfer the distance to doglegs and other hazards on the course. This watch also has the capability to keep scores digitally for individual players, and the results can be downloaded to be viewed or printed on a computer. Scoring options include the Stroke Play and Stableford. The watch also has a round timer that keeps track of time played and odometer to see the walking distance on and off the course.

This waterproof watch is very lightweight, weighing only 2 ounces and has a thin backlit display that allows easy legibility. It has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can last up to eight hours during continuous use in GPS mode or up to four weeks as a regular watch. The numbers are large and easily visible. The Moon Invader 40 is part of the Romain Jerome Moon Invader Collection which uses authentic lunar elements such as moon dust, fragments of the Apollo XI and fibers from an International Space Station spacesuit. The rounded case is actually made from a union of steel and spare parts from Apollo XI. The four screws and four ball and socket joints that surround the case are reminiscent of the feet of the lunar landing pod. The traditional X pattern on the dial is a lattice array. This design was inspired by the woven metal strands on the tires of the lunar roving vehicles. The beveled case size is 46 millimeters and shows as a pleasantly rounded cushion shape.

The case-back features a grainy moonscape-textured small disk in Moon Silver representing, of course, the moon. Moon Silver is a combination of precious metal with certified and authenticated moon dust. The Moon Silver obtains a unique finish upon contact by the owner. Being a Big Pilot watch, the crown is a rather large feature. The reason goes back to the days when aviation pilots flew in open or unheated cockpits. To counter the weather, the pilots had to wear quilted flying suits and thick gloves, thus making a normal watch crown hard to wind and set. Hence, the overlarge crown was born.

IWC, known for their active commitment to social responsibility, donated the Big Pilot Muhammad Ali Edition watch to charity at the annual Celebrity Fight Night in Phoenix, Arizona. Many celebrities and professional athletes filled the guest list as Evander Holyfield went on stage to model this one-of-a-kind timepiece. Billy Crystal, Halle Berry and Lionel Richie arrived to support and participate in a night of live musical performances and live auctions. The IWC Big Pilot Muhammad Ali Edition watch was auctioned off along with a special tome weighing 75 pounds with over 3,000 illustrations celebrating Muhammad Ali’s life. The winning bid of $60,000 went directly to the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center which offers care and resources to those afflicted with the disease.

The Urwerk UR-110 is a fascinating timepiece. The means in which it indicates time is by the use of a revolving satellite complication on planetary gears that feature three parallel hour modules that appear to be arrow-shaped torpedoes. The actual time display occurs on the right side of the watch where the minutes are displayed from 0 to 60 in a downward arc. The rotating modules follow this line to constantly display the time. This is an ingenious complication which allows the wearer to glimpse the time by just barely pulling up on a cuff or long sleeve.

The complication of the UR-110 posed some interesting challenges for Urwerk. The watch does not support ball bearings. Instead, a fixed axis runs through the full altitude of the timepiece, thus allowing the complication to be perfectly balanced on the axis. This is a major mechanical achievement.

The dial of the UR-110 also sports a “Control Board” on the left side which displays indicators for Day and Night and whether the watch is due for an “oil change.” The oil change is akin to a service interval display, similar to a vehicle. A small seconds display is also featured on a sub dial. Turn the case over and you will find the automatic winding system which is enclosed and controlled by dual turbines.

The UR-110 TTH has taken the masterpiece a step further. The bezel is crafted in tantalum which is a hard and dense metal known for its resistance to corrosion. TTH stands for “Tantalum Hull.” This metal provides a pleasing bluish-gray shade to the bezel, while sand-blasting and satin-finishing helped to enhance its final presentation. Urwerk also upgraded the strength of the panoramic sapphire crystal.

The brother of the UR-110 TTH, the UR-110 ST is similar in shape and mechanical design but the bezel is another story. The satin finish of the bezel has been replaced by an ALTiN-treated grooved steel surface. Urwerk describes the watch by a famous quote from the poet Paul Claudel, “Sculpture is the need to touch.” With the UR-110 ST, the sensorial experience is what Urwerk wished the owner to encounter.

The campaign actually incorporates three unique different ads that scrolls across a banner on one’s iPad screen. The ad gives the option of launching a submarine-esque ninety second video as well.

Eric Litman, founder and chairman of advertising agency Medialets, hired by Chanel, says the company used HTML5 to create immersive experiences that are further enhanced when the user tilts the iPad or touches the in-app creative.”

J12 Marine

The ad allows users to control the Chanel content they see by sliding down over the banner to observe the different J12 models from different angles. After the iPad user has viewed each of the three available models, the option to find a Chanel store locator is presented.

As Mobile Marketer online describes, “The ad features a barrage of aquatic imagery – highlighting the J12 Marines Series’ underwater capabilities – and renders the visual of Chanel watches coalescing as their parts burst forth from a hydrothermal ocean vent.”

The watches themselves are fitted with specially sand-blasted ceramic and steel on the case and clasp. There is a steel notched rotating bezel and a steel, screw-down crown with ceramic cabochon. The watch face is sapphire crystal, with blue anti-reflective coating on each side to ensure no glare. The dial shows a black lacquer with luminescent hands for better readability in the dark.

The J12 Marine is a self-winding, mechanical Swiss movement with a 42-hour power reserve, and is available in black, blue, and white.

The watch is further designed to withstand a descent up to 300 meters, or 984 feet.

Litman further explains that the advertisement for the J12 is being marketed through the iPad application because iPad users fall into about the same consumer demographic as Chanel buyers. “We’re seeing early adopters who want the best of the best, whether it be the latest and greatest jewelry accessory or the newest and most technologically advanced tablet computer,” said Mr. Litman on the matter.

This advertising method allows for luxury brand Chanel to maintain their aura of lavishness and comfort while adding to the appeal of the new and convenient Apple products being rapidly launched each year.

The purpose of the ad is really to get users to spend as much time exploring the interactive method as possible. These expansions in the advertising industry should be expected to increase in the near future, especially with luxury brands such as Chanel wanting to push hot new products, but wanting to keep the consumer interested and not annoyed.

Concord C2 Saratoga

The new timepieces all include a stainless case, a Swiss quartz movement, and the faces are made of sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. The main models come in at 9.15 millimeters tall with 40 millimeter diameter cases. The designs are offered in the style of silver or black mosaic grains d’orge guilloche patterned dial. There is also the choice of dark blue or white mother of pearl dial sets. The deployment clasp is also stainless steel to match the case, and each Saratoga is water-resistance to 50 meters (3ATM). The Concord Saratoga traps are generally platinum.

The women’s Saratoga model is similar, but is offered in a white or pink mother of pearl dial setting. Slightly smaller than the men’s model, the women’s models all range in the 31 millimeter diameter range for the watch face, and include the offer of six diamonds set on alternating hour markers, which have a total weight of 0.9 kt.

The Concord Saratoga collection also offers models with an 18k white or rose gold chain and diamond inlay. The reference price for these models is around $933,000 for the platinum models and $1,023,000 for the white/rose gold models. The Saratoga series includes with each purchase a patented crown protection device, and every timepiece is delivered in handmade wooden boxes with full certificates.

Blancpain Villeret

On the technical aspect, the Villeret Calibre 7663Q is presented with a 40 millimeter watch-face, which is set with white gold. The interior also contains 244 parts, and overall features “34 jewels has a three-day power reserve,” according to Blancpain’s official website. The new eye-catching model is water-resistant and has an alligator leather strap with a folding clasp for maximum wrist comfort.

In its annual tradition, Blancpain also presented a new and exclusive model especially for Valentine’s Day. The watch was dubbed the Saint-Valentin Chronograph 2012, and is presented in white alligator leather and is surrounded in diamonds and a ruby heart set on it. PARIS – Bell & Ross Time Instruments was on hand for year number 27 of the International Automobile Festival in Paris, France on January 25. The watch maker was there to present the Palme d’Or award and show off its exclusive watch collection.

This year the Festival was held at the luxurious Hotel des Invalides, near the famous Dome of the church right next door. The Festival is held to show off new concept cars from different manufacturers and to celebrate automotive innovation. Bell & Ross were there to strut their stuff along side auto manufacturers with their new exclusive line of watches.

The watch company also unveiled something that France had never seen; a new kind of item thatBell & Ross is not know for, a Harley Davidson. Bell & Ross teamed up with Shaw Harley Davidson and created the Nascafe Harley Davidson bike. The motorcycle has won many Custom Harley Davidson championships in the US and was well received by everyone at the International Automobile Festival.

The Festival also bring out an exclusive watch collection from Bell & Ross each year. This year the watches were on display and available for purchase to anyone with the inclination to own such a luxurious timepiece.

Of course Bell & Ross was not only there to have fun and show off their award winning Harley, they had an award to present. CEO of Bell & Ross, Carlos A. Rosillo, presented the Palme d’Or to the Red Bull Racing F1 team who took the 2011 Championship title won by German driver Sebastien Vettle. The team’s owner, Dieter Mateschitz met Rosillo on stage to accept the award for his team.

French driver for the Citroën World Rally Team Sebastien Loeb was also presented with an award. Loeb has won the World Rally Championship (WRC) a record eight times in a row.

Rosillo is also a member of the jury which decided on 14 prizes championing the work of companies and people including the Palme d’Or were handed out at the Festival. A little more than 600 people attended the event in Paris.

The event celebrated 2011s innovators in the automotive field. The new years concept cars are unveiled and any new idea that involves automobiles will be brought to the floor. It has become a place where the future of the industry is born each year anew.
