Victorinox Swiss Army is one of the most recognizable watch companies in the world.  Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the largest breast cancer organization in the world.  So what happens when the two join forces?  Create a watch for the cause, of course.  The result of this partnership is the Susan G. Komen Special Edition Alliance Sport.

This special watch contains all of the high quality attributes found in all Victorinox Swiss Army watches.  It features a fine silver dial matched with luminous silver hands and dials.  At the 6 o’clock position is a date window.  Above the date window is the ubiquitous pink ribbon logo, the symbol for breast cancer awareness.

Other features of the watch include Victorinox Swiss Army’s accurate Swiss quartz analog movement.  The watch’s case and bracelet are stainless steel.  It features a two piece unidirectional bezel and an anti-reflective sapphire crystal.  It is also water resistant up to 10 ATM.

Victorinox Swiss Army donates 10% of every sale of this watch to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  Additionally, Victorinox Swiss Army has promised a $50,000 minimum donation to the organization.  This watch won’t be available for long, though, as it is only available until May 31^st.

Cartier Watches are undoubtedly some of the finest watches money can buy, and the Santos 100 Skeleton is no exception.  A modern representation of the partnership forged by Louis Cartier and Alberto Santos-Dumont back in 1904, this timepiece is both a mechanical and visual marvel to behold.

The star of this watch is Cartier’s mechanical 9611 MC movement.  Comprised of 138 components and 20 jewels, the movement is delicately and painstakingly finished by hand.  The upper bridgework alone takes 15 hours to complete.  Such care is reflected in qualities such as a 72 hour power reserve, which allows the watch to maintain outstanding accuracy.  Each movement is individually identified on the back of the watch.

Cartier does not let this fantastic movement hide behind a typical watch dial and back.  Instead, a skeletonized bridge adapted from the Santos case houses the movement.  Made from 950 ‰ palladium, the case is formed into Roman numerals, creating a truly unique visual presentation that is both striking and easy to read.  Complementing the case are sword-shaped blue steel hands.

Other features of the Cartier Santos 100 Skeleton watch include an alligator skin strap, sapphire crystals on both the front and back of the case, and a triple adjustable folding clasp made from 18k white gold and palladium.  The watch is also water resistant up to 30 meters.

Movado’s latest collection of watches has been titled “Bold.”  The label is fitting, as the collection features some of the most striking watches on the market.  Case in point: the 03600011 Chronograph men’s watch.

Anyone serious about watches knows that a handsome watch makes a statement about its wearer.  It sets him apart in a world where cheap digital watches are often prevalent.  One problem with this is that many of best looking watches come with a price tag to match their looks.  Even the most inexpensive luxury brand watches cost somewhere around $1,000.  These prices certainly create a dilemma for those who want a good looking watch on their wrist but don’t quite have the funds to make the purchase.  Fortunately, not all watch sales have to break the bank.  Here are two watches that have some serious presence for some not so serious cash.

Fossil is known for making highly wearable quartz-based watches with reasonable prices.  What Fossil is not known for is making watches that feature automatic movements or skeletonized dials.  Yet in their Auto Skeleton, they’ve put both.  Set in a gunmetal dial and against a sleek, dark face, an oval cutout reveals the graceful mechanics of the watch.  Paired with a rubber strap that features a braided leather overlay, the Auto Skeleton offers a sophisticated and modern that’s hard to ignore.

Alessi Tanto X Cambiare

Breitling continues to steal the show with its Chronomat series, which recently got a serious facelift.  The new case of the men’s Chronomat B01 is more elongated, with a profile that molds the watch to the wrist. Its unidirectional rotating bezel has engraved numerals, and its stunning new dial comes in either an hour-marker or Roman numeral version.  Overall, the new design features a mix of colors and textures that not only enhance the look of the watch, but also makes it more functional for men on the move.

Looks aside, what really makes the Breitling B01 Chronomat a success is its new Caliber B01 movement.  In order to achieve its coveted status as “COSC Chronometer-certified”, the B01 had to withstand 15 days of rigorous testing.  The results: 1,650 feet of water-resistance, incredible precision and reliability, this timepiece easily ranks as one of the best men’s chronographs available today.

The Breitling AB011012/b967 model features an “onyx black” dial, with raised silver inner-bezel, tachymeter scale, and silver sub-dials.  The polished finish of both bezel and case are distinctively engraved with satin finished numerals. There is a 12-hour counter dial at the six o’clock position, a date window at four o’clock and a small second sub-dial at nine o’clock.  Hour markers and hands are tipped with luminous material, and highly visible in the dark.

For those of you are relatively new to luxury watches, the IWC Pilot Mark XVI might be your first major purchase.  As the foremost purveyor of classic dress men’s watches, the International Watch Company is one of the few luxury watch makers that has stayed true to its roots; making watches that are slim, sophisticated, and exceptionally detailed. 

The IWC Pilot Mark XVI watch recently gained notoriety in the doomsday flick “2012”, when the main character (John Cusack) used his as collateral for boarding a plane that would save his family’s lives.  As a longtime fan of these watches, I was pleased to see that Sony Pictures places such a high value on this legendary timepiece as well. 

The Spitfire Mark XVI (model number IW325504) takes a cue from the Philip Stein company by using a soft-iron inner case to protect the wearer from electromagnetic fields, and contains a 30110 Caliber automatic movement within its 39mm diameter case.  The design of this men’s IWC Pilot Watch immediately brings to mind the cockpit of an aircraft, and is the logical extension of previous Pilot models. Its convex sapphire crystal is designed to secure the watch from extreme conditions, such as a drop in air pressure, and it is water resistant to 60 meters.
