Around since 1833 the luxury watchmaker started off inventing and producing highly precise movements and before the company began to produce its own watches, they made movements for Cartier and Patek Philippe.

Jaeger has always been different and now they’ve joined the hip scene of applications for the popular iPhones but they’re doing it their own way. On Jaeger-LeCoultre’s website it’s described as: “Driven by the passion for horological technologies and faithful to its avant-garde spirit, Jaeger-LeCoultre is opening the first iPhone watchmaking initiation school.”

A school? We all know that you can take online courses but what can you learn through an iPhone app? Well, Jaeger is taking its expertise in and knowledge of watchmaking and giving you a behind-the-scenes look at how they do it.

Those that download the new application will be able to explore how watches are made, including access to dictionary of horology, which is “the art or science of measuring time”, and six watch initiation classes. Some of these classes focus specifically on Jaeger’s top watch models, including the Reverso Squadra, which has been frequently seen on the wrist of Eva Mendes. In these classes you can actually practice techniques like assembling a chronograph mechanism, decorating and jewelling a movement and polishing, engraving and gem-setting the case.

One class is offered every two weeks. If you pay attention and do well, at the end of the class a draw of all participants will take place and one winner is selected. The winner will be offered a guided tour of Jaeger-Lecoultre’s manufacture located in the Vallée de Joux, Switzerland!

Piaget and Breitling are other luxury watch brands that have come out with their own applications for iPhones.

Who could ever forget the words to “Eye of the Tiger?” Watching Sylvester Stallone in “Rocky III” and his many “Rambo” films, he became a hero to all of us who grew up in the 80’s. He was brave, fought hard and because he was the good guy, always won at the very end. Well, Stallone still hasn’t stopped fighting and making movies.

Stallone, a big fan of luxury men’s watches like Panerai, has quite the personal collection and always sports a cool watch in all of his films. In many “Rambo” flicks, he wore a Panerai, the extra large faced Italian watches. Rambo’s Panerai is a PVD Luminor Marina Militare.

Panerai has even made a special watch just for Stallone, called the “Slytech” that has the actor’s name autographed on the back.

The relationship between actors, movies and luxury watches has always been something big in Hollywood. It’s a great way for a watch to literally get “face time”, while becomming identified with a certain character and vice versa. For example, James Bond in all his transformations has always worn an Omega Watches and Arnold Schwarzenegger in his “Terminator” series always wears a custom-made Audemars Piguet Royal Oak.

So, it makes sense that luxury watch brands like Jaeger-LeCoultre would take this relationship to the next step and partner with events like film festivals.

On September 12, during the Venice International Film Festival, the “Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Award” will be awarded to Sylvester Stallone, as someone who has left a significant mark on modern cinema. Stallone has not only acted in films, he has directed them. During this festival, two of his films will be shown: “The Expendables” (Stallone both stars in it and directs it) as well as the director’s cut of “Rambo 4”, which was also directed by Stallone and though this is not the version seen in theatres, it better represents how he envisioned it.

The question is, will Stallone wear one of his favorite Panerai watches when he accepts the award or will he wear a Jaeger-LeCoultre?

Whether you prefer a Panerai, Jaeger or any other luxury watch we have, save an extra 5% on all of them by using promo code: tweety05 at check out until the end of this month.

Founded in 1833, the company is known as “La Grande Maison” of Switzerland. Jaeger boasts more than 200 patents, as well as an abundance of 1,000 different calibers, designed and built in the same facility. They are also renowned for the creation of such iconic models as the Reverso, the Duoplan and the Atmos. Jaeger-LeCoultre is one of the essential brands in the history of watch making. Here is a look at some of its big inventions and patents:

1844 Antoine LeCoultre came up with his invention of the world’s most precise instrument: “Millionometer”, which made it possible for him to be the first person to discover and measure the micron.

1907 The Calibre 145 is invented, becoming the world’s thinnest mechanical movement.

1925 The Duoplan watch is created to solve the problem of miniature watches having little reliability. Its parts were designed on split levels, and the Duoplan eventually led to the creation of the Calibre 101.

1928 By inventing and creating the Atmos clock, which draws its energy from the slightest variations in temperature, Jaeger-LeCoultre virtually achieve perpetual winding.

1929 22 years after the Calibre 145, the Calibre 101 is invented, marking the world’s smallest mechanical movement. Weighing it at barely a gram, it is comprised of a whopping 74 parts. It is crafted in extremely small quantities, but its record is still unmatched today.

1931 The Reverso watch is created in response to the difficulty of creating a watch able to resist the knocks of a Polo match. The Art Deco classic design, was converted into a living legend.

1956 With the creation of the Memovox, an automatic watch was able to provide an Alarm function for the first time in history.

1958 The Geophysic is created, sporting a chronometer with an antimagnetic case of double density.

1992 Creation of 1000 hour control. A series that established a new record in horological precision time history.

2004 Still pushing the limits of watches, the Gyrotourbillon, a spherical tourbillon introduces a new era for Grand Complication time pieces.

The patents registered by Jaeger-LeCoultre since the 19th century are among the most numerous and significant in horological history. Who knows what they’ll come up with next?
