Jaeger-LeCoultre will continue its partnership and officiate as timekeeper for Global Champions Tour’s impressive seventh season. The Global Champions Tour (GCT) is the world’s international equestrian jumping competition founded by GCT’s president Jan Tops, an Olympic gold medalist, in 2006. The tour’s purpose is to bring together the top 40 riders competing in a series of shows producing the best in show jumping.

Global Champions Tour announced its official calendar with legs of the tour taking place in:

This international event will open in Doha, capital of Qatar, to be held at Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club for a second year. Doha an evolving nation has begun drawing attention for its cultural and sporting events, tax free designer goods, fine dining and water sports, all which speaks to Quatar’s committed stand to the development of sports both locally and internationally.

Winner of GCT 2011 event was Australian Edwina Tops-Alexander (and horse Cevo Itot du Chateau) whom took the GCT Title purse of 300,000 euro cheque and the Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos clock which was showcased in a GCT personalized case.

France’s Roger-Yves Bost (and horse Ideal de la Loge) won both first class at Doha and final class at Grand Prix. Bost took the Grand Prix class for fastest unbelievable jump-off, purse of 400,000 euros and received an engraved Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso watch.

The GCT event epitomizes what show jumping is all about, the best of the best, the relationship of skill and ability that exists between rider and horse best exhibited in show jumping. How fitting that Jaeger-LeCoultre would continue its partnership with GCT to time honor its rich culture of sportsmanship. In began in Switzerland in 1833 with Antoine LeCoultre who was a self-taught watchmaker and invented a machine that would produce watchmaking pinions. From that point on, the company grew until 1937 when the grandson, Jacques-David LeCoultre collaborated with Parisian Edmond Jaeger, an expert in ultra-thin calibres. Their friendship led to exciting watchmaking concepts and the birth of the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand.

The Reverso timepiece is a unique concept that was created in 1931. Based on a request by a polo player to protect his watch face, LeCoultre and Jaeger designed a case that could be turned around to expose only the metal back. This was originally created so the watch face would not be exposed to “shocks” such as occurred in the polo matches. The Reverso watch case was built so that it could “pivot on itself while sliding in its carriage.” This was quite a marvel and soon began to attract interest. Not only was the watch face protected, but the back case became a blank page which served as an engraving piece on which the buyer could have decorated to their personal tastes.

Since then, the Reverso has undergone many mechanical changes. It has held over 50 different mechanical calibres, from the smallest complication and ultra-thin movements to continuous calendars.

The Swiss luxury watchmaker originated in 1833 when Antoine LeCoultre founded a small workshop in Le Sentier, Switzerland where he crafted and manufactured high-quality timepieces. Kruger got her first Jaeger LeCoultre for her 18th birthday

Actress and model Diane Kruger received her first Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso for her 18th birthday. This gift from her mother sparked Kruger’s love for luxury watches, a passion that has not only lasted through her illustrious career but granted her the honor of being the ambassador of Jaeger LeCoultre for almost four years.

The Reverso design originated in 1931 with British colonial army officers in mind: The watch’s case rotated to protect the dial from impacts while displaying the personalized and engraved back. Soon after this design came to light, another model adopted the concept and recreated the swiveling watch case with a feminine touch. Kruger values time as of the essence, whether in work or simply just in life. “I am a stickler for timekeeping, so a watch is essential to me,” she says. Her feminine values also represent a breakthrough in the male-dominated luxury watch collector’s world: “It is something you can keep in the family as an heirloom to pass on to your children, which is incredibly important to a woman.”

As Kruger’s modeling and acting careers developed, her watch collection followed in suit. Jaeger-LeCoultre auctioned a limited edition “LeCoultre Special Amerique 1959″ commemorative edition watch. The winning bid was approximately 27,000 USD and the winner although anonymous, was said to be ‘elated’ with the rare watch. This unique timepiece was a prototype to the ‘Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea’ divers watches. Jaeger-LeCoultre spokesman said ‘It was the first diving watch ever to be equipped with an alarm and self winding Calibre.’ The funds were all donated to Colombia’s Malpelo Fauna and Flora Society.

The Colombian Navy currently spends an average of 20 days a month patrolling the Sanctuary which provides a critically needed habitat to internationally threatened species. This was the third auction devoted for the benefit of ‘World Heritage’ marine sites. On May 4th 2011, Jaeger-LeCoultre signed an innovate ‘Tides of Time’ partnership with the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to continue the needed protection of marine environments. UNESCO has been supporting the World Heritage Center with the necessary financing to continue its conservation campaigns for years.

In August Jaeger-LeCoultre held another auction, this time to benefit “The Salam Centre” in the Sudan. The efforts are aided in part by celebrities that will be participating in the 68th ‘Venice International Film Festival’ that lasts for ten days. Jaeger-LeCoultre has been sponsoring this festival that is organized by the Biennale di Venezia organization since 2005. It was during this festival that Jaeger-LeCoultre decided to organize a charitable auction by hosting an ‘exclusive event’ the “Reverso for Emergency, Helps the Salam Centre” on September 1st. The event will be featuring celebrities from around the world.

Jaeger-LeCoultre will be financing 10 operations and to commemorate this event, it will be auctioning a specially made watch called the ‘Reverso for Emergency.’ This luxury watch is from their ‘Grande Reverso Ultra Thin’ model line and made available in both men’s and women’s versions. It has been especially painted in lacquer and features the Salam Centre symbol on its cover, a red heart. This chronograph offers a manual mechanical movement, water resistant to 30 meters, luminescent hands and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Jaeger LeCoultre recently unveiled its “Proto Zero” watches, to be sold exclusively at Hong Kong’s recently opened Jaeger LeCoultre Boutique at Heritage 1881. Jaeger LeCoultre is working in conjunction with the Hong Kong charity End Child Sexual Abuse Foundation (ECSAF), which will receive 10 percent of all the proceeds from the sale of the watch.

“Proto Zero” watches are essentially the hand crafted prototypes of a select number of limited edition watches in the Jaeger LeCoultre collection. They have been refurbished, tested for quality control and meet the exacting standards of Jaeger LeCoultre. The scarcity of these models combined with their historical significance make them coveted pieces for any serious collector. Typically, prototypes have been stored at the Jaeger-LeCoultre watch factory in Vallée de Joux, Switzerland, and are not sold.

The End Child Sexual Abuse Foundation is a non-governmental philanthropic organization initiated in 1998 by actress and clinical psychologist Josephine Siao.
