Breitling for Bentley’s Limited Series holds true to its name

Breitling watches are without a doubt highly desirable timepieces.  So how can the maker of some of the finest luxury watches make their products even more desirable?  Simple: team up with Bentley, maker of some of the finest ultra-luxury vehicles on the planet

Red Gold Limited, 100 pieces set

The latest models of watches in this luxury partnership are the Bentley GMT 2009 Limited Series.  Brietling for Bentley spared no expense when creating this extremely limited collection and each watch is a testament to the superior refinement of both brands.

Beginning with the most available of the set at 100 pieces, the Red Gold Limited Bentley GMT comes with a bronze dial and red accented hands.  Its brother, also called the Red Gold Limited, is a set of 50 pieces.  It comes with diamonds set into the strap attachments and at the hour markers, as well as either a natural or azure mother-of-pearl dial.  Next in the series is the White Gold Limited.  Only amounting to 25 pieces, this watch features the same diamond settings and dial choices as the 50 piece Red Gold Limited.  The final watch in the series is also called the White Gold Limited.  This timepiece distinguishes itself by being set with baguette-cut diamonds and having a diamond-pave dial; understandably, this watch is a set of only 10 pieces.

Breitling Beats the Others

Well, our poll results are in and according to our members, fans and blog readers, the favored luxury watch brand for 2009 is Breitling!

As you can see here in this picture of a Breitling for Bentley GMT model, Breitlings are top of the line in terms of craftmanship and complexity; the latter being what the Breitling brand was founded on and continues to put first and foremost.breitling-bentley-gmt

Breitling came in with 32%, followed by Omega with 27%, Cartier with 18%, Michele with 14% and lastly, Panerai with 9%.

I’m a bit surprised with the results to be honest with you; I would have thought that something more traditional like Cartier watches (especially with holidays purchases spiking specific interest) would have come in closer to the top. But that’s why the “people’s voice” is so great! YOU tell US what you think is the best and then we know.

Breitling is a definite favorite among celebrities and perhaps some of this public attention swayed your vote. Celebs like John Travolta, Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones and Dave Chapell love their Breitlings. Seen the video?

Whether you voted for Breitling as #1 or not, you can always find your dream watch with us and many times we run special promotions on already super low prices, so stay tuned. 2010 is the year to know what time it is!

New Limited Edition Breitling Chrono-Matic QP & 1461

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the launch of the first self-winding chronograph Breitling is releasing two, limited edition versions of its Chrono-Matic watch, one called the QP and the other called the 1461.breitling-chronomatic QP

The Breitling Chrono-Matic QP (as pictured in the first image) will be released in 125 pieces while the 1461 will be more widely available in a total of 2,000 pieces.  The latter, the 1461, is named after the fact that is features a chronograph and a calendar complication that needs only one adjustment per leap year resulting in a memory of 1,461 days. The QP features a perpetual calendar, made of 500 parts, which beautifully displays the date, day, week, month, season, and moon phase.

The look of both of these versions is inspired by the original Chronomat which came out in 1969.

1969 was a big year for both the aviation and watchmaking industries. Both the first flight of the Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet and that of the supersonic Concorde took place and Breitling created the first self-winding chronograph movement. This invention led to the launch of many collections of men’s watches. Breitling has always made watches specifically for aviation pilots which is why the company’s motto is “instruments for professionals.”

Both the Chrono-Matic QP and 1461 measure a hefty 49 mm in diameter and feature a circular slide ruler that is also seen in the Navitimer line. Both are water resistant to 30 meters and have a power reserve of 42 hours.

breitling-chronomatic 1461The overall design of both versions takes inspirations from the 70’s but each watch is very different looking than the other. The Chrono-Matic QP is crafted from red gold and comes with a black rubber strap, while the Chrono-Matic 1461 (as pictured in the second image) is made from all steel, including the woven steel Aero Classic bracelet, which gives the watch a retro look.

Breitling watches are “instruments for professionals” and these two chron0-matic models are no exception.

Breitling Watches and the Celebrities that Love Them

Breitling watches, named after Leon Breitling, who founded his company in 1884 in Switzerland, have over the years become one of the top luxury watch brands, even though luxury was not what initially drove their creation.breitling-chronomat-b01

Breitlings were primarily designed for aviation pilot and some of these technical functions, have in fact, turned out to be what has made Breitling watches some of the most high end models around today. Their large faces which allow pilots better visibility are popular due to the ever growing demand for large watches. Some of their technical features like the flyback function, split second, moon phase, date display, circular slide rule on the bezel and other complications have rendered them luxurious and therefore popular.

The newest Breitling watch to be released was the limited edition chronograph called the Cosmonaute. The Cosmonaute was released to celebrate the company’s 125th anniversary. This new version, made in 1,000 pieces, is based on the original Cosmonaute which was created in 1962 to accompany astronauts making space voyages. What is special about this watch’s function is that it can indicate all 24 hours of the day in a single sweep of the dial.

There are many celebrities who have chosen to wear a Breitling watch; fans of the Breitling Navitimer include the comedian Dave Chapelle, TV host Simon Cowell, musician Miles Davis, and actors Tommy Lee Jones and John Lovitz. Rapper Ludacris prefers the Breitling Super Avenger.

John Travolta could perhaps be the biggest and best spokesmen for Breitling watches since he himself is an avid pilot. Travolta has been seen wearing many different Breitlings, but the one he seems to like the best is the Navitimer.

Other celebrities who wear Breitling men’s watches are Leonardo DiCaprio, who likes the Chronograph Avenger and Tom Cruise who opts for the Breitling Emergency Mission.

Celebrities that Wear Breitling Watches

With their large faces that easily display information and allow for better visibility, Breitling watches were primarily designed as aviation timepieces. However, due to their enduring style and high-profile partnerships, like the one with Bentley that resulted in the Breitling for Bentley Motors, Breitlings are now just as known for their precision timekeeping as they are status symbols.breitling

With collection names such as the Aeromarine Avenger, the Navitimer, the Professional Airwolf and the Windrider Cockpit, these really are hard-core, high-precision watches that are practically indestructible. Given these characteristics, even though Breitling does make a few watches for women, they really and truly are the perfect watch for a man.

This is why many male celebrities choose to wear a Breitling watch. Some fans of the Breitling Navitimer include the comedian Dave Chapelle, TV host Simon Cowell, musician Miles Davis, and actors Tommy Lee Jones and John Lovitz. Rapper Ludacris prefers the Breitling Super Avenger.

Since Breitlings are aviation watches, it’s obvious that John Travolta, himself a well accredited pilot, likes just about every Breitling, but has been seen most often wearing a Navitimer. Other film stars who have been spotted wearing a Breitling are Leonardo deCaprio (he likes the Chronograph Avenger) and Tom Cruise who chooses the Breitling Emergency Mission.

We have every Breitling watch worn by the celebrities mentioned above for much less than they paid for theirs.  So no matter which Breitling you most indentify with, we have them all at prices that never go out of style.

Check it out.

The New Breitling Airwolf, a long-awaited Instrument for Professionals

Long recognized as a leader in Swiss-made mechanical chronographs, the Breitling Company has recently established itself as a pioneer in the world of electronic watches as well.  Breitling is a favorite among pilots, aviators and anyone associated with the world of flight, so it is no surprise that they would want to be at the forefront of any technology related that enhances the flying experience.Breitling Airwolf Silver Dial Watch A7836334

Everything about the Breitling watches‘ new “Airwolf Instruments for Professionals” is made with a pilot’s needs in mind.  First of all, it is the first Breitling Calibre 78 movement that uses chronograph “pushers” rather than locating the function controls on the crown.  This 1/100-second SuperQuartz chronograph includes a secondary time zone, perpetual independent alarm, countdown timer, and back light.   It even includes a slide-rule on the bezel.  The hefty case of the Breitling Airwolf is 43.5 mm wide, and topped with a double-coated sapphire crystal, and surrounded with a black PVD-coated bezel.  With bracelets available in either polished metal or sporty rubber, this watch is a model of efficiency and style.

How do all these functions help a pilot, you may ask?  Well, the dual time zone allows the pilot to calculate landing times in both the origin and destination time zones.  Ergonomically, the new curved push-pieces allow for easier manipulation, in flight.  The oversized hands and glowing backlight allow for greater visibility and legibility.

But perhaps the most remarkable feature of this watch is a portion that is not even visible while it is worn.  The caseback of the all-new Breitling Airwolf evokes the whirling turbines of a jet engine.  This three-dimensional “turbine” not only looks good, it also serves as a resonance chamber for the watch’s alarm and other indicators.  This same motif is subtly echoed in the decoration of the dial.

Whether you are attracted by the generous dimensions of the case, the sophisticated detailing on the dial, or the jet-engine inspired caseback, the Breitling Airwolf is truly an instrument of inspired form and function.

Three Breitling watches worth checking out…

Since 1884, the Breitling watch company has been known for creating some of the best-known luxury timepieces in the world.

It is no surprise that Breitling been a pioneer in the world of aviation, since they began by making chronographs for pilots and chronometers for airplanes. Early on, the Breitling Navitimer became the official watch of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. This was soon followed by the “Cosmonaute” model, which was worn by astronaut Scott Carpenter in space.

In recent years, Breitling has continued to introduce even more technology into its timepieces. The “Emergency” model is capable of transmitting an emergency aviation distress signal, and Breitling’s Colt SuperOcean and Chronomat models are both COSC-rated and waterproof up to 100 ATM.

After reviewing several of Breitling’s men’s watches, three models stand out as top competitors among competitors: The Aerospace, the Navitimer, and the Chronomat B01.

The Breitling Aerospace watch is a rugged, sporty and highly reliable timepiece, which has been recently modified with a more modern look.

The 2009 model, introduced at Baselworld, features a case and bezel made from 18-carat rose gold. The dial includes a luminescent “dot” at the twelve o’clock spt, and an etched sixty minute scale around the bezel. The brown dial is accented with rose-gold hour markers at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o-clock, and the hands are luminescent as well. New in this model are two digital screens, one displaying the function name, and one the function itself. Functions include an alarm, chronograph timer, minute repeater and an additional time-zone. breitling-navitimer

Marking their 125th anniversary, Breitling recently introduced a special series of their well known Navitimer watch. Since 1952, the Navitimer has been considered the official watch of the aviation industry, and is worn by pilots around the world. This self-winding chronograph model acts like a navigation computer, allowing pilots to calculate flight details accurately. The new Navitimer uses the Breitling “caliber 26” movement, and features an elegant Air Racer bracelet.

The Breitling Chronomat B01 is known for its elongated profile in its case design, and is available in a variety of materials – steel, steel/gold and 18-carat rose gold. A truly refined timepiece, the Chronomat is extremely sturdy and masculine in its appearance, and its 500 meter water resistance makes it an excellent choice for the diver. What makes this watch particularly unique are the large, engraved Roman numerals around the bezel and raised steel markers at the quarter-hours. It also features a convex, scratch-proof sapphire crystal, which is glare-proof on both sides. Internally, the COSC certified Chronomat is equipped with Breitling’s exclusive B01-calibre movement, which vibrates at a 28,000 per hour. Its six functions include a ¼ second chronograph and a tachometer, making it unquestionably reliable and accurate. Bracelets are available in stainless steel, crocodile leather and luxurious Barenia leather.

Whichever Breitling model you choose, you can be certain that, like all other Breitlings, it will be a masterpiece of Swiss timekeeping technology.

Breitling: As for me – it’s the “Flying B”!

After trying on several Breitling Watches in Switzerland last summer, I was a bit confused about which one to choose.  Then, the salesperson brought out the new line of Breitling watches called Breitling for Bentley.  Having always been a fan of Bentley automobiles, I had a feeling one of these would be the watch for me. Breitling Flying B Watch

Breitling partnered with Bentley to unveil a new line of watches inspired by the refinement and sophistication of this world renowned British automaker.  The collection includes the Bentley Motors series, the GT and GMT racing models, a limited edition Mulliner Tourbillon, and three versions of the Mark VI, but my favorite is the Flying B series.

Commemorating the perfect marriage between Breitling watches and Bentley automobiles, the “Flying B” series combines the well known “winged B” Bentley mascot with Breitling’s legendary reputation among aviators, to create the luxuriously appointed Flying B collection.  The cambered rectangular case expresses the daring originality of both companies, which is also reflected in the knurled motif, sculpted mother-of-pearl hour markers, and beveled sapphire crystal.  The exceptional motorization of this timepiece utilizes the chronometer-certified Breitling Calibre 25B self-winding movements, and the caseback is engraved with Bentley’s legendary Flying B.

These chronographs clearly assert themselves as superb timepieces, with the attention to detail and stunning aesthetics that distinguish all Breitling watches.  The Flying B chronographs are all hand made by Swiss artisans, and it shows.  I was especially taken by the subtle lines of the case, radiating hour markers and inlaid mother-of-pearl Roman numerals.  Like the automobiles, the dials can be customized with classic Bentley colors, like Royal Ebony, Silver Storm, Desert Dune and Neptune.  All in all, the Flying B chronograph has all the originality and distinction that has made Breitling and Bentley the finest brands in their respective industries.

Breitling Navitimer Brings Functionality Back to the Luxury Watch

The Breitling Navitimer is a COSC-certified “Chronometer”, and it was designed originally for aviation use by professional pilots. It has automatic mechanical movement, and the Breitling 23 caliber: twenty five jewels running at almost thirty thousand vibrations per hour. breitling-navitimer-a2332212c685

It provides hour, minute, small seconds, date, and a chronograph with three separate counters: the fourth-second counter at the 9 o’clock, the thirty minutes counter at the 3 o’clock, and the twelve hours subdial at the six o’clock. It also has a precise tachometer with a on hundredths scale using a side-rule flange on the dual-directional bezel, a wonderfully functional feature that was added in the forties for aircraft pilots.

During the fifties and sixties, one of the Navitimers was actually sold by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association itself, showing the highest recommendation for a watch. In 1961, one of the original astronauts on the space program Mercury, named Scott Carpenter, asked Breitling to encorporate a twenty-four hour dial instead of the standard twelve-hour, because there’s no night and day in space and he wanted to keep accurate time with the world’s most reliable watch. They agreed, and produced the unique and much sought-after 24 hour Navitimer Cosmonaut watch, and Carpenter wore it during his 1962 space flight.

The gorgeous, yet masculine case of the Navitimer comes in steel, steel and gold, and pure 18 karat, butter-yellow gold. The crystal over the face is known as sapphire crystal, and reflects light as bluish purple. The back of the case has the prerequisite engraved logo, and even includes a temperature scale to convert Celsius to Farenheit and back again. The dials themselves come in silver, black, or blue, with silver or gold subdials, all decorated with delicate circular threads.

This watch is truly the pinnacle of functionally and style wound into one, with an eye for professionalism and high-tech versatility.

Breitling Watches: How To Spot a Fake (Part Two)

Let’s take keep a specific watch in mind as we assess the best ways to verify its authenticity. The Breitling Bentley 6.75 is one of the most often replicated watches on the market. It is an enormous watch, weighing almost a pound, and 49mm in diameter- a lot of fakes will have a heavy head, but the ‘stainless steel’ bands will feel light in comparison. The real watch is heavy all over. breitling-bentley-6751

The main thing to look for in a replica Breitling Bentley (Breitling Bentley 6.75 A4436212.G573.970A) is the logo- most replicas will have the logo simply printed on the face, whereas the real thing has it embossed into the dial. The applied wings logo is too thin on the fakes, fragile-looking, with too much white space. Also, cheap fakes tend to have at least a little bit of smearing on the logo or writing on the face of the watch. This is pretty easy to spot if you have a magnifying glass. Checking the logo is the easiest and most effective way to catch counterfeits. Don’t forget to check the back engravings for misspellings- all the writing is in Swiss-French and may be hard for you to verify, but you can find pictures online and check letter for letter.

On the back side of the links in the band, there should be a clear manufacturer’s marking, and the strap should have the model number. If the watch lacks these marks, it’s definitely fake. Also, the steel used in the fakes, for obvious cost-cutting reasons, is usually cheaper-looking than the steel used for real Breitlings. Plus, the nine o’clock subdial in fakes shows the days of the week instead of the date, and the font is often wrong when compared to the real thing.

Keep a look out for raised subdials- they’re supposed to be flat and flush with the face, not raised or domed. Also, another great test is to hold the watch head and try to move the bracelet strap from side to side- a fake Breitling will move, the real thing will hold firm. And keep your eye on the strap itself- the screws and patterns should be well-made and smooth, and the joints should be flush, not raised or rounded.

A final test is the bezel- the circlet around the face of the watch that rotates. On the Breitling Bentley, it is, again, very sturdy and difficult to move. If the bezel spins effortlessly, you’re holding a fake Bentley 6.75. Overall, just keep in mind what a precise, large, masculine watch the Breitling Bentley 6.75 really is, and don’t be deceived into buying something that is messy or too delicate.
