One Hundred Years of Cartier in America
The House of Cartier was founded in 1847 by Louis-Francois Cartier, and is one of the best known names in the world of luxury watches. In 1909 Cartier made its presence known in U.S. and this year of 2009, celebrates one hundred years of business and success in America.
As part of the celebration, Cartier has launched a new, larger version of one of its most popular women’s luxury timepieces: the Baignoire. The Baignoire, which means “bathtub” in French because the oval shape of the watch case resembles a bathtub, first debuted in the 1920’s. The newer version, officially called the Cartier Baignoire Grand Modele watch. The dial features blue hands and the classic Roman numeral markers seen in so many Cartier watches. The crown resembles a sapphire jewel cabochon. The watch case is made of 18K gold and comes with a beige satin strap, gold bracelet, or gold bracelet fitted with diamonds.
Cartier offers an original repertoire of shapes and lines that create a new set of rules for watchmaking. Cartier watches are mysterious, dream-inspiring and reveal the intricacies of Cartier’s original creative know-how.
One could never tire of the choices in women’s watches by Cartier. From the Baignoire, Divan and La Dona collections to the vast Tank collection (featuring the Tank Americaine, Tank Francaise, Tank Louis and Tank Solo) to the Tortue styles, it’s easy to justify why one would need more than one Cartier in your watch collection.
