Michael Kors rings the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange

After ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Michael Kors shares rose by an impressive 25 percent.

As the Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Michael Kors Holdings Ltd. began to trade on December 15th 2011, it was immediately apparent that a decision made the day before, to increase the public offering of the stock and price it above the expected range, was ingenious. After the last trade of the day was made and the closing bell had rung, Michael Kors had sold 47.2 million shares, raising 944 million dollars and bringing the company’s net worth to 3.8 billion. The success of the day was attributed to a continued appetite of luxury items by consumers globally.

Michael Kors Holdings Ltd. was one of ten companies to go public during the month and marked the end of December 2011 as the most active ‘IPO week’ in over 4 years for NYSE. The exceptional opening day for Mr. Kors was also a history making event since the IPO was the largest ever for a U.S. fashion company. You can find the stock on the NYSE ticker trading under KORS or contact one of their underwriters at Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan or Goldman Sachs.

The Michael Kors brand is favored by celebrities to politicians and his line has become an essential accessory for the fashion conscious. Although it is considered a ‘Luxury Brand’ much of the product is manufactured to augment an ordinary lifestyle. You can find a reasonably priced chronograph or over-sized ceramic without much effort. A new addition to the 2012 line is the “Michael Kors Dipped-Dial Baguette Chronograph” that is housed in a 44mm stainless steel ‘Gunmetal’ case and features dark grey baguette style insets. It is manufactured with tonal stop accents and a stop watch function.

The Michael Kors label can be found worldwide in fashionable boutiques and department stores from Sacks Fifth Avenue to Nordstrom and Macy’s. Michael Kors items can also be purchased at over 200 ‘Michael Kors’ stores located throughout North America, Japan and Europe.
