Breitling for Bentley’s Limited Series holds true to its name

Breitling watches are without a doubt highly desirable timepieces.  So how can the maker of some of the finest luxury watches make their products even more desirable?  Simple: team up with Bentley, maker of some of the finest ultra-luxury vehicles on the planet

breitling for bentley red gold limited

Red Gold Limited, 100 pieces set

The latest models of watches in this luxury partnership are the Bentley GMT 2009 Limited Series.  Brietling for Bentley spared no expense when creating this extremely limited collection and each watch is a testament to the superior refinement of both brands.

Beginning with the most available of the set at 100 pieces, the Red Gold Limited Bentley GMT comes with a bronze dial and red accented hands.  Its brother, also called the Red Gold Limited, is a set of 50 pieces.  It comes with diamonds set into the strap attachments and at the hour markers, as well as either a natural or azure mother-of-pearl dial.  Next in the series is the White Gold Limited.  Only amounting to 25 pieces, this watch features the same diamond settings and dial choices as the 50 piece Red Gold Limited.  The final watch in the series is also called the White Gold Limited.  This timepiece distinguishes itself by being set with baguette-cut diamonds and having a diamond-pave dial; understandably, this watch is a set of only 10 pieces.

Michele Watches release Tropical Paradise Collection

Michele Watches have a new line of women’s timepieces that are being released at the end of February.  Entitled the Tropical Paradise Collection, the line arrives just in time for the beginning of the summer shopping season.

Michele Tropical Sea Turtle Watch

Michele’s Tropical Paradise Collection consists of three watches.  Each watch is based on a different animal that is featured in a scene set in the dial.  To accompany these elaborate pictures, each watch is fitted with a set of diamonds on the dial and case, as well as a color-coordinated strap.  The Tropical Paradise Monkey watch comes with 51 diamonds, totaling 0.34 ct, and a golden alligator strap.  The Tropical Paradise Sea Turtle watch has 53 diamonds, totaling 0.35 ct, and a turquoise alligator strap.  The Tropical Paradise Fish watch is fitted with 56 diamonds, totaling 0.36 ct, and a hot pink alligator strap.

Each watch in the Tropical Paradise Collection can be fitted with any strap Michele offers.  All three feature a date window and the red Michele logo.  The watches have white enamel dials, 36 mm cases, sapphire crystals, accurate Swiss movements, and are water resistant to 5 ATM.

IWC Watches found in new iPhone app

On January 11, 2010, IWC released an exciting new iPhone application for their collections of watches.  Aimed at giving fans and patrons of the brand simple, direct access to all the main content of their website, IWC’s app is filled with interactive and unique features that anyone can have fun with.

IWC Aquatimer Colletion

The app’s main feature is its immense collection of digital animations that explain many of the complex mechanisms found in IWC watches.  Two notable examples are the depth gauge found on the Aquatimer Deep Two and the digital calendar found on the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Digital Date Month.  App users can virtually wind up the power source on the Portuguese Automatic, or, if need be, use the button found on the Big Ingenieur Chronograph to record stopped time.

The most intriguing feature of IWC’s app is the Try-It function.  Using the Try-It function, iPhone owners can take a picture of their wrist and then see how the various watches look on their wrist.  This ingenious feature allows potential customers determine which models they like best without even stepping into a store.  When they find a model they like, the app provides them with a locator that helps guide them to the closest IWC retailer.

On top of all these great features, the IWC watch app is available for free and in 6 different languages.

Movado watches feature the boldest white

Movado’s latest collection of watches has been titled “Bold.”  The label is fitting, as the collection features some of the Movado bold chronographmost striking watches on the market.  Case in point: the 03600011 Chronograph men’s watch.

The Bold Chronograph is an attention grabber.  Movado made everything on this watch the cleanest, starkest white possible; even the people snowed in all winter will look slightly tan.  Underneath the outstanding visual appeal lies a well-crafted watch.  Its 43.5 mm case is made from a high-tech composite PVD stainless steel and is completed with stainless steel inserts, crown, and pushers.  The white dial is offset by silver hands and the soleil dot that marks all Movado timepieces.  Within the dial are the three chronograph dials, each one set with dial rings that match the outer time ring.  A date window sits at the 6 o’clock position.

The strap of the Bold Chronograph is white leather and is lined in purple.  It boasts a k1 metalized sapphire scratch resistant crystal that is treated with an antireflective coating.  It also features a high quality Swiss quartz chronograph movement.

The Movado Bold Chronograph men’s watch is the perfect watch for those guys looking to catch the attention of a room with just a flick of a wrist.  This watch is undeniably sleek, perfect for a casual night on the town.

A case for authentic watches

breitling bentley

Breitling Bentley

It’s not hard to understand why some people would choose to by a replica of an authentic watch.  A TAG Heuer Aquaracer Calibre 5 costs roughly a grand, while a Breitling Bentley is almost 100 hundred times that.  Even a savvy buyer looking for a genuine watch on the used market knows it will cost him at least a few hundred dollars.  Because of the high cost associated with luxury brand watches, a replica seems like the perfect deal: a chance to wear a Rolex or Omega watch for a fraction of the price either cost.

What these seemingly smart shoppers miss is that there’s a reason authentic watches come with a high price tag.  Watches that carry a luxury name are hand-crafted under stringent quality controls, feature accurate movements, and are made from the finest materials.  Replicas, on the other hand, feature inferior movements, cheaper materials, inconsistencies, and can even have contaminants like hairs trapped underneath the crystal.

With all of the inaccuracies and inconsistencies that come with replica watches, it’s easy to say that you get what you pay for.  But there is one other thing to consider when looking at the authentic versus replica decision: people who wear authentic watches have the satisfaction of knowing that the watch on their wrist is the real deal, and the people who wear them know this can’t be underestimated or understated.

Panerai watches open new boutiques around the world

panerai logoLate last year, Officine Panerai, maker of the fine Italian Panerai watches, announced that it would be opening 5 new boutiques in just as locations.  People located in the international shopping capitals of Doha (Qatar), Beruit (Lebanon), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Geneva (Switzerland), and Macao (China) can now experience a full immersion into Panerai culture.

With 11 boutiques already located in places such as Beverly Hills and Dubai, these new boutiques allow Panerai to make distribution more targeted and exclusive and offer a larger selection of products to customers worldwide.  Each boutique is made to evoke the sea, with the arcitechture, furnishings, materials, and colors all working to create a harmonious vision of the ocean.  The watch collections themselves are housed in settings of teak and steel, with portholes serving as the viewing windows and furnishings imitating waves or yatch hulls.

The locations of the boutiques represent a mix of ambitious and safe marketing.  The locations in the Middle East and China tap into rapidly growing consumer markets, while the Geneva location roots Panerai in the ancient horological culture of the Swiss.  CEO Angelo Bonati states that the new boutiques are part of an initiative to solidify and continue the legend of the historical Florentine brand.

Watch sales don’t have to break the bank

fossil auto skeleton

Fossil Auto Skeleton

Anyone serious about watches knows that a handsome watch makes a statement about its wearer.  It sets him apart in a world where cheap digital watches are often prevalent.  One problem with this is that many of best looking watches come with a price tag to match their looks.  Even the most inexpensive luxury brand watches cost somewhere around $1,000.  These prices certainly create a dilemma for those who want a good looking watch on their wrist but don’t quite have the funds to make the purchase.  Fortunately, not all watch sales have to break the bank.  Here are two watches that have some serious presence for some not so serious cash.

Fossil is known for making highly wearable quartz-based watches with reasonable prices.  What Fossil is not known for is making watches that feature automatic movements or skeletonized dials.  Yet in their Auto Skeleton, they’ve put both.  Set in a gunmetal dial and against a sleek, dark face, an oval cutout reveals the graceful mechanics of the watch.  Paired with a rubber strap that features a braided leather overlay, the Auto Skeleton offers a sophisticated and modern that’s hard to ignore.

alessi tanto x cambiare

Alessi Tanto X Cambiare

Moving to a more minimalist approach, the Alessi Tanto x Cambiare looks like it could be in a museum display just as much as it could be on a wrist.  Designed by Franco Sargiani, this elegant time piece features a 24-hour dial at the top to display the hours of the day, while the minute hands remain in the center.  Paired with a brown leather strap, this design gives the timepiece a unique and classy appeal perfect for a business meeting or evening out.

The best part about both of these?  Neither watch sells for over $200.

Watch made for computer hackers

EZ430-Chronos

Texas Instrument's programmable watch, the EZ430-Chronos

Software developers and hardware enthusiasts rejoice.  Texas Instrument, makers of every calculator owned by students ages 8 to 80, have made a watch that you can quite literally hack.  The EZ430-Chronos was designed by Texas Instrument as a promotional product for their MS430 line of microcontrollers and offers a fantastic amount of user control over the way the watch functions.

For starters, the EZ430-Chronos watch features a 96 segment LCD display, giving wearers a digital readout that’s large and clear.  Taking a page out of Apple’s book, the watch has a 3-axis accelerometer for motion sensing, just like the iPhone.  It also has onboard pressure, temperature, and battery voltage sensors.  These sensors allow the watch to function as an altimeter, barometer, and compass if the wearer so chooses.

While these features are all nice, the real fun of the EZ430-Chronos watch is found in its ability to be paired wirelessly to transceiver devices.  Its wireless radio interface allows the watch to be paired with equipment like heart rate monitors and pedometers.  This means that wearers who want to monitor their health or fitness can do so right on their watch (provided they know a bit about programming).  It can also work as a data logger for those who need to keep their data on them at all times

The EZ430-Chronos watch comes with the source codes for time, date, alarm, stopwatch, sensor readings, heart rate monitor and fitness interfaces, and two wireless protocols included.  Also included is a USB programmer, IDE, and IDA C compiler (the software needed for programming) to get wearers started.  Given the unique and wide-ranging functionality of the watch, the only bad part about it may be that its water resistance is only 30 meters.

Tissot watches now available on the iPhone

tissot iphoneIt is no secret that the iPhone’s application abilities make it a great tool for companies to reach new potential customers, and Tissot is happy to jump on the bandwagon.  Making good use of the iPhone’s app capabilities, Tissot recently released a T-Touch watch application for the iPhone.  With the app, users of Apple’s extremely popular phone gain access to some of the 15 functions found on the T-Touch Expert, a watch geared towards adventurous outdoorsmen like professional mountaineers, extreme skiers, and divers.

When the app is opened, a high-quality graphic image of the Tissot T-Touch watch appears.  All the touch areas found on the watch are active on the graphic representation, giving iPhone users a watch in their pocket.  The iPhone’s integrated GPS technology facilitates the altimeter and compass found on the watch, while the chronograph and alarm functions operate in the same manner they do on the watch.  Dummy values are inserted for the thermometer and barometer functions.

In addition to these functions, the app also provides important information on the Tissot watch.  This information is provided in order to guide potential buyers in their purchasing decision.  The app not only provides information on the T-Touch, but on a wide variety of brand news and information. Going even one step further, the app also incorporates a store locator to show users their closest dealer.

Tissot Silen-T touches new innovation

Tissot Silen-tTissot’s T-Touch line of watches demonstrate a remarkable level of innovation.  The technology behind these watches allows wearers to simply touch the crystal of the watch to activate a wide variety of functions.  The T-Navigator, for instance, lets wearers switch the active time to four alternative time zones (set by the wearer) by touching the crystal at the twelve o’clock position.  While the ability to bring touch multi-functionality to watches sets the T-Touch line apart from traditional watches, the Silen-T watch is the timepiece that marks the brilliance of Tissot’s touch technology.

The Silen-T does not offer multi-functions.  Instead, the Silen-T allows wears to not only read the time, but also set both the time and an alarm.  Tissot achieved this by making the watch’s touch crystal vibrate in response to tactile response.  The watch ushers forth a new era of timepieces for the visually impaired.  Instead of having to rely on disruptive “talking” watches or the people around them, people with poor eyesight can now check the time in a discrete manner.  The watch is also great for people who need a means of checking the time without being disruptive or conspicuous, such as business men during meetings.  The Silen-T is also a great looking watch. So good, in fact, that some will surely buy it even though they don’t need it for the touch screen.
