Chopard Classic Racing Chronograph Limited Edition

The race-inspired collection of watches, including the Mille Miglia collection, by Chopard is one of its most popular and one of the most unique men’s watches available today. Which is why, each year Chopard releases new watches within this collection, usually only with small differences. Not this time. The new Classic Racing Chronograph offers a completely evolved and new look, while still maintaining the design features that have made this timepiece so loved.chopard-classic-racing-chrono

Offered in a limited edition of 500 pieces, this new Racing Chronograph is hot to trot.

The watch measures almost 48 mm wide by 15mm and comes with a thick 18k rose gold case. The case is actually very detailed although you can’t tell that well in the picture; look at the sides and rear of the watch and you’ll get an idea of this detailing. This time around, the bezel has screws in it and the rubber coated crown has a gold three spoke racing steering wheel placed on the side of it. “The sides of the case are all nicely milled and cut with an interesting horizontal striping, and the large screw columns intentionally protrude a bit giving it a very technical feel.” The crown guard and rubberized integrated chronograph pushers are nicely done in a unique style. The dial features large, gold hands that contrast well against the dial, which offers a vertical pattering, something new to the collection. The three overlapping chronograph subdials are subdued, but legible.

This new Racing Chronograph wouldn’t be a classic Chopard race-inspired watch if it were not for the Dunlop tire tread rubber strap, which when contrasted against the rose gold tones, makes for a cool, modern look. The watch is water resistant to 100 meters and the price is about $24,000.

Now that we’ve helped you with ideas for a wonderful gift that can be worn and appreciated by your children and theirs, here is a quick tip for making a delicious turkey, compliments of Allrecipes.com.

Before you buy the turkey, figure out your guest list. You should have 1 to 1½ pounds of turkey per person. If you have bought a fresh turkey then you don’t need to worry about defrosting one, if yours is frozen make sure to follow these steps:

The preferred method is to defrost it in the refrigerator; allow one day per 5 pounds. A 15-pound turkey will require three days to defrost thoroughly.

If this seems unlikely due to a crisis of lack of space in your refrigerator, then you can speed up the defrosting process by putting the turkey in a cold water bath. Allow 30 minutes per pound. That 15-pound turkey will require only 7½ hours to defrost using this approach. It is also possible to use a combination of these methods.

How to Roast Your Turkey

To prepare the turkey for roasting, first remove the giblets! Not only is it disconcerting to find these paper-wrapped lumps when carving the bird, but you may also wish to use the giblets in your gravy or stuffing. Next, rinse the bird inside and out. Pat dry with paper towels.

  • If you are stuffing the bird, stuff it loosely, allowing about ½ to ¾ cup stuffing per pound of turkey.
  • Brush the skin with melted butter or oil. Tie drumsticks together with string (for stuffed birds only).
  • Lastly, insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh. The thermometer should point towards the body, and should not touch the bone.
  • Place the bird on a rack in a roasting pan, and into a preheated 350 degree F (175 degrees C) oven. Use the following chart to estimate the time required for baking.
  • Bake until the skin is a light golden color, and then cover loosely with a foil tent. During the last 45 minutes of baking, remove the foil tent to brown the skin. Basting is not necessary, but helps promote even browning.

Schwarzenegger Shopping for Luxury Watches

It’s a well-known fact that actor turned politician CA Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is a fan of luxury watches.arnold-schwarzenegger

During his “Terminator” days he was filmed wearing four Audemars Piguet men’s watches; Royal Oak Offshore chronographs that were created especially for the Terminator film series.

When Audemars Piguet opened its flagship boutique in New York during the summer of 2003, Schwarzenegger attended and signed the watches which were auctioned off for charity.

In support of the After-School All-Stars Foundation founded by Schwarzenegger, Audemars Piguet  created the Royal Oak Offshore Arnold’s All-Stars Chronograph that was produced in a limited series of 350 pieces.

panerai luminorAnother famous actor, who is also a big time fan of luxury men’s watches, is Sylvester Stallone. Stallone is actually credited with bringing what is now one of the best known and most coveted luxury watch brands to the attention of U.S. consumers. On a trip to Rome in 1995, Stallone wandered into a Panerai store and immediately fell for the super sized, classic Panerai watches. He bought a bunch, specifically the Panerai Luminor (as pictured here), and gave one to his friend, Schwarzenegger. Thankful to Stallone for the star power that he garnered for these men’s watches, Panerai made a special edition series just for him called the Slytech which he would wear during the shooting of his film “Daylight.”

Recently in Italy, the CA Governor was seen shopping in a Franck Muller store. Although it’s not known whether or not he bought a watch, he spent ample time in the boutique and was shown a couple of pieces. It has been reported that Arnold has recently purchased a super sized 60mm wide watch; the manufacturer is unknown. Who could it be? Even Panerai watches are not this big and they, at 44mm, are considered some of the largest.

Madoff s Luxury Watch Collection Sells Big

From wooden duck decoys, and a personalized Met’s baseball jacket, to all but one of the 46 luxury watches which were sold at the Madoff auction, everything fetched a higher price that what the now jailed financier originally paid for it.Stainless steel Bvlgari

Why people would want to own something that was purchased with money that Madoff stole from his clients is beyond me; however the good news is that the proceeds of the auction, which netted over $1 million dollars, will be shared among his victims.

Here is a partial listing of the watches that Madoff wore and were sold. The only luxury men’s watch that did not sell because it failed to garner its minimum bid of $35,000 was a gentleman’s vintage Rolex Oyster. Rolex was the favored brand by Madoff, which is ironic considering that he lost the Swiss watchmaker almost a million dollars.

A stainless steel Bvlgari watch (pictured here), two Hublot watches, one a classic, stainless steel chronograph and the other a large, steel men’s Hublot with automatic movement and black rubber strap.

Cartier CougarAn Audemars Piguet Millenary model that features a slightly oval case and comes with a spare strap, and another Audemars Piguet watch with silver dial and brown alligator strap were sold.

A Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Geographic, known as one of the most reliable traveler’s watches ever, due to the fact that it shows multiple time zones, with city names located at the 6 o’clock position, plus another Jaeger men’s watch made from stainless steel were let go.

In addition to Rolex watches, Madoff also loved Cartier watches. A Gent’s Cartier Cougar (as pictured), a Gent’s stainless steel Cartier Tank Basculante with navy blue alligator strap, a large 18-carat gold Cartier Tank Americaine, and an 18-carat gold Cartier Tank Francaise were among those auctioned off.

A Blancpain Leman flyback and an IWC Mark XV gent’s stainless steel watch were some others.

New Limited Edition Breitling Chrono-Matic QP & 1461

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the launch of the first self-winding chronograph Breitling is releasing two, limited edition versions of its Chrono-Matic watch, one called the QP and the other called the 1461.breitling-chronomatic QP

The Breitling Chrono-Matic QP (as pictured in the first image) will be released in 125 pieces while the 1461 will be more widely available in a total of 2,000 pieces.  The latter, the 1461, is named after the fact that is features a chronograph and a calendar complication that needs only one adjustment per leap year resulting in a memory of 1,461 days. The QP features a perpetual calendar, made of 500 parts, which beautifully displays the date, day, week, month, season, and moon phase.

The look of both of these versions is inspired by the original Chronomat which came out in 1969.

1969 was a big year for both the aviation and watchmaking industries. Both the first flight of the Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet and that of the supersonic Concorde took place and Breitling created the first self-winding chronograph movement. This invention led to the launch of many collections of men’s watches. Breitling has always made watches specifically for aviation pilots which is why the company’s motto is “instruments for professionals.”

Both the Chrono-Matic QP and 1461 measure a hefty 49 mm in diameter and feature a circular slide ruler that is also seen in the Navitimer line. Both are water resistant to 30 meters and have a power reserve of 42 hours.

breitling-chronomatic 1461The overall design of both versions takes inspirations from the 70’s but each watch is very different looking than the other. The Chrono-Matic QP is crafted from red gold and comes with a black rubber strap, while the Chrono-Matic 1461 (as pictured in the second image) is made from all steel, including the woven steel Aero Classic bracelet, which gives the watch a retro look.

Breitling watches are “instruments for professionals” and these two chron0-matic models are no exception.

Omega Goes Back to the Basics

These days a lot of people use their BlackBerry’s or other digital devices to see what time it is, rendering watches (for time telling purposes only) obsolete. Of course watches are also considered fashion accessories, a piece of jewelry and even status symbols, but Omega has chosen a “back to the basics” campaign to remind and educate people about the evolution of luxury watches. To do this, the company has employed the friendly faces of long-time celebrity brand Ambassadors Cindy Crawford and George Clooney.cindy-crawford-omega

Since the celebration of the 40th anniversary of man’s first walk on the moon and the fact that the Apollo 11 astronauts wore Omega Speedmaster men’s watches, Omega has been launching ad campaigns that celebrate the brand’s sense of “pioneering adventure.”

Brand ambassadors like Cindy Crawford, George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Michael Phelps and astronaut Buzz Aldrin have helped spread the word in Monocle campaign, launched last month, which brings Omega’s co-axial calibres back into the spotlight. This movement was and continues to be pioneering technology, as it makes watches more accurate by reducing the friction among their inner workings.

Cindy Crawford is Omega’s longest serving Ambassador and appeared in an ad in the New York Times where she states: “The Beauty Is in the Detail.”

Other headlines include Buzz Aldrin saying: “It’s Not Rocket Science. But It’s Close” and Formula 1 race car driver Michael Schumacher stating: “When Faster Isn’t Better.”

These ads are to be printed in the world’s leading newspapers and celebrate the 10th anniversary of Omega’s release of its co-axial technology which is considered a breakthrough in the watchmaking industry.

Stephen Urquhart, president and chief executive officer of Omega, says “we will continue to build other campaigns around our core messages of innovative technology, international sports timekeeping, and our pioneering spirit.”

Go Omega watches!

Chanel & Audemars Piguet to Release New J12 Womens Watch

The J12 women’s watch by Chanel is one of the most popular luxury watch collections ever released and now it’s about to get better. With the help of Audemars Piguet, Chanel will design and produce a new version of the J12 called Noir Intense or “Intense Black.”chanel-logo

The improved watch will run on AP’s 3125 movement, for which Chanel redesigned the balance and the rotor in gold, topped with the black ceramic that made it so coveted the first time around; the final result will be called the Chanel-AP 3125.

Ceramic offers a shine that no other material can and this new version, offered in intense black is sure to shine even more. Aside from sleek, ceramic is also resilient, making it a great material to craft a watch from and like its predecessor, the J12 Noir Intense will feature a ceramic case, bezel and strap. Although resilient, the cutting and molding of ceramic requires high precision skill, the same that is needed for gems and precious stones, which has bestowed upon it a high value in the watchmaking industry.

In this new J12, ceramic is cut into baguette sized pieces and used on the dial, bracelet and bezel and is treated by Chanel the same way that the company would treat one of its diamonds of rubies. The Noir Intense is made up of 713 insets and crafted completely from 18 white gold and ceramic. The only bad news? It seems that as of this point the watch will only be released in 5 pieces, nor is there a picture yet of this creation.chanel Haute Joaillerie

However, the J12 Haute Joaillerie limited edition luxury women’s watches are here to be seen. They come in three sizes: 42mm, 38mm and 33mm, each in a numbered, limited edition of 12 pieces. Both 42 and 38mm models run on automatic movements while a high precision quartz movement is used for the 33mm sized one.
In this watch, the 713 insets are diamonds rather than ceramic, making a total weight of 43 carats, which decorate the case, dial, bezel, crown and bracelet for a striking impact.

Stay tuned from more news from Chanel and Audemars Piguet as to when the J12 Noir Intense will be released. My feeling is demand will be so high that there will definitely be more than five watches made.

Check out Usher and his love for Audemars Piguet men’s watches!

New Womens Watches by Raymond Weil

Raymond Weil is one of the younger Swiss luxury watch brands having only been around since 1976, however this company is one of few independently-run watchmaking brands and has come out with numerous classic, elegant and reasonably priced men’s and women’s watches. The new Noemia collection for women is no exception and actually takes the brand’s offering of women’s watches to new heights. Raymond Weil_Noemia

The motto behind Raymond Weil watches is “independence is a state of mind” and the Noemia collection is a perfect example of this. The Noemia collection is made up of two watches; similar except for the straps, both exceptionally well-crafted and stylish with an understated sense of elegance.

The name Noemia is a tribute to Raymond Weil’s granddaughter which may explain why these are such unique, feminine and different watches than anything offered before by this Swiss brand.

The Noemia timepieces feature large, round faces and the diamonds sparkle nicely against the stainless steel cases. The roundness of the cases creates soft, feminine curves and the diamonds give a sense of elegance. These watches come in two different sizes and with two different straps; you can choose between a 27mm or 32mm sized case and between a stainless steel bracelet that features a brushed center link and polished outer links or a white, saddle-stitched leather strap. You can also select how you would like the diamond settings to look; with a set bezel or with case lugs with two rows of stones. Examples of both models are pictured here. The dial is a natural white mother of pearl. The 27 mm model has a total of .24 carats worth of diamonds, while the 32mm one has a total of 34 carats, yet both models have 54 full-cut diamonds surrounding the case.

RW NoemiaThe hour markers are made up of four, large, polished Roman numerals and eight full-cut sparkling diamonds. The tapered and highly polished hour and minute hands add a complimentary stylish look. The gentle curve of the sapphire crystal adds another dimension of femininity to these women’s watches, while the blue cabochon crown gives them a sense of royalty. These watches are run by quartz movements and are water resistant to 5 ATM.

Gucci Watches Bring Style

Anything and everything made by Gucci is stylish and gorgeous and mostly unaffordable for the general public, except for its watches! Read on to find out more and where to find the perfect Gucci watch just for you.Gucci watch collection

Yes, it’s true, Gucci watches are affordable, stylish, and held to the highest production standards. The design and inspiration behind Gucci men’s and women’s watches is Italian and the craftsmanship takes place in Switzerland where almost all luxury timepieces are manufactured.

Since 1921, when Mr. Guccio Gucci started his namesake brand, the Gucci name has become highly respected and coveted throughout the fashion world. Originally the Gucci brand focused on clothing and leather goods (their shoes and their handbags remain top-sellers).

In the 1970’s Gucci added watches to its line of luxury goods and in 1997 the company became serious about having control over the production of its watches, leading to the creation of Gucci Timepieces (also known as the Gucci Watch Group) in 1997. This occurred when the Gucci Group acquired the Severin Montres Group, one of the world’s largest manufacturers and distributors of watches.

Due to Gucci’s immense success and high prices, its luxury products have fallen victim to being replicated and sold on street corners as the “real thing” for mere dollars. When it comes to buying a brand new Gucci watch, one need not look farther than here. Here you will find over twenty-four collections of Gucci watches to choose from at prices that cannot be beat.

In September of this year a limited edition Gucci was released during New York’s Fashion Week. R&B singer Mary J. Blige collaborated on the design of this all black PVD women’s watch from the Twirl collection, of which a proceed of the sales went to a foundation that she founded.

Kerry Washington for Movado

When you’re trying to get your message across and sell a certain product, what better way than to use a famous and beautiful face? Celebrities have it so good. They become stars in a movie and then get paid the mega bucks by endorsing brands and products.Kerry Washington

Luxury watch brands like Movado, Omega, Raymond Weil and TAG Heuer are some of the ones that use this edge to market their men’s and women’s watches. Some of the most famous faces today (actors, athletes, musicians and artists) promote and represent some of the best timepieces on the market today.

Take actress Kerry Washington for example.  She exploded onto the scene when the movie “Ray” debuted in 2004 to much acclaim. Washington’s co-star, Jamie Foxx won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Ray Charles and Washington herself won an award hosted by the NAACP Image Awards in 2005. This same year was when Movado brought on Kerry as one of its brand Ambassadors.

Kerry was part of the Movado’s 60 Years of Modern Design Campaign in which she specifically promoted one of the new Esperanza watches; this particular one (as pictured here) crafted from all stainless steel  (case and band), diamonds, and the signature Movado black museum dial. She has also appeared in Movado’s “The Art of Time” international advertising campaign.

The Esperanza collection offers women’s watches in many styles; including both round, square and rectangular-shaped cases. They are both crafted from stainless steel, 18K gold, or a combination of both metals, come with or without diamonds, and all have the numberless face made famous by Movado, except for one style, model number 0605348 which is unique and worth it to mention specifically because it features Roman numerals.

If you are in the market for a women’s watch and like the sleekness and elegance of the brand that Kerry Washington prefers, let Movado be your choice as well.
