Launched by a young, 19 year-old watchmaker named Achille Ditesheim, Movado, whose name means “always in motion”, was founded in 1881. This automatic men’s watch runs on the TAG Heuer Calibre RS movement, which marks a new method of time display. Breitling watches, named after Leon Breitling, who founded his company in 1884 in Switzerland, have over the years become one of the top luxury watch brands, even though luxury was not what initially drove their creation.

Every year luxury watch and jewelry makers from around the world gather at BaselWorld to show off their new goods.

Baselworld is the world’s biggest and most important event for the watch and jewellery industry, which is why luxury watch brands wait for this moment to showcase their best and newest designs.

BaselWorld takes place in Basel, Switzerland, home to all luxury watch makers. The 2009 exhibit showed many great pieces.

Jaeger-LeCoultre is getting hip. Around since 1833 the luxury watchmaker started off inventing and producing highly precise movements and before the company began to produce its own watches, they made movements for Cartier and Patek Philippe.

Jaeger has always been different and now they’ve joined the hip scene of applications for the popular iPhones but they’re doing it their own way. On Jaeger-LeCoultre’s website it’s described as: “Driven by the passion for horological technologies and faithful to its avant-garde spirit, Jaeger-LeCoultre is opening the first iPhone watchmaking initiation school.”

A school? We all know that you can take online courses but what can you learn through an iPhone app? Well, Jaeger is taking its expertise in and knowledge of watchmaking and giving you a behind-the-scenes look at how they do it.

Those that download the new application will be able to explore how watches are made, including access to dictionary of horology, which is “the art or science of measuring time”, and six watch initiation classes. Some of these classes focus specifically on Jaeger’s top watch models, including the Reverso Squadra, which has been frequently seen on the wrist of Eva Mendes. In these classes you can actually practice techniques like assembling a chronograph mechanism, decorating and jewelling a movement and polishing, engraving and gem-setting the case.

One class is offered every two weeks. If you pay attention and do well, at the end of the class a draw of all participants will take place and one winner is selected. The winner will be offered a guided tour of Jaeger-Lecoultre’s manufacture located in the Vallée de Joux, Switzerland!

Nicole Kidman has been an Ambassador for Omega watches since 2005. She is beautiful, talented, and generous and adheres very well to the terms of her contract with Omega. When actors, athletes or other famous faces are paid to rep a certain brand and / or product there are two basic rules. For example, with watches, the brand spokesperson is not to be seen in public wearing a watch other than one from the brand he / she is now representing and two, this person must also make a certain amount of public appearances to promote the watch brand.

Over the weekend Nicole made a high profile appearance at the Omega flagship store in New York.

Nicole promotes three lines of Omega women’s watches: the Constellation Quadrella Quartz, Constellation My Choice Quartz Mini, and the Seamaster Aqua Terra Quartz.

During the appearance she donated a signed Constellation women’s watch. She also autographed the cases of 30 other Constellation watches during the appearance. The proceeds of sales from these watches will go to UNIFEM (the United Nations Development Fund for Women), which is one of many organizations that Kidman promotes.  An ambassador since 2006, Kidman is the international spokesperson for UNIFEM’s Say NO to Violence against Women campaign.

In addition to promoting Omega watches, Kidman campaigns for women’s and children’s rights. She is a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF in Australia and for UNIFEM. Due to her work, the United Nations has named her a “Citizen of the World”.

Although the spotlight of this recent appearance at the Omega store was supposed to be on the watches themselves, people could not help notice the color of Kidman’s hair. After a long run as a blonde, she is back to being a redhead. Supposedly, red is her natural color and one that compliments her skin and eyes.

Attention ladies… For a great fall look, red hair and an Omega watch can’t be beat!

For a long time TAG Heuer has been the official timekeeper of race car events, including for the Scuderia Ferrari team in the 1970’s, the F1 McLaren team since 1985 and a long run with Formula, for which TAG created an entire collection of Formula 1 watches.

The Formula 1 collection offers both men’s watches and women’s watches. They are superior timekeeping instruments as well as being very sporty, with attention to detail.

The newest edition to the TAG Formula 1 family came out in May of 2009. Worn by the FIA Formula 1 2008 World champion Lewis Hamilton, this TAG Heuer Formula 1 Calibre S 1/100th Chronograph is a welcome member to the Formula 1 family that allows the wearer to read elapsed time more quickly, quite a feat considering these cars are travelling at hundreds of miles per hour.

There are four models from which to choose from. With super luminescent numerals, indexes and hands, each of these TAG watches offers extreme readability under all conditions. They run on a Ronda 6004B quartz movement which can measure 1/10^th of a second.

The case measures 44mm and is made from brushed stainless steel.

There are two dials, one is black with luminescent numerals and indexes and the other is luminescent with black numbers and indexes. The lacquered skeleton hands also have luminescent markers. The watch comes with six quintessential TAG Heuer features: the unidirectional turning bezel with scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, “Easy Grip” crown (made from scratch-resistant titanium), is 200 meters water-resistant, with luminescent markers and comes with a double safety clasp and diving extension system. The crown is where the monochrome TAG logo is.

The bracelet comes in two options, a rubber strap with pin buckle or a three-row fine brushed steel bracelet with safety clasp and diving extension system.
