For 25 years Cartier has been sponsoring this chic English sporting event. It is the most prestigious polo event in the world and epitomizes the high society lifestyle enjoyed by royalty and celebrities alike.

Similar to the Kentucky Derby, in that tens of thousands of people show up and then, it seems, most of the chitter chatter is not about the match or the race, but about who was there and of course, what they wore.

This year was no different. The event took place at the Windsor Great Park and in years past, attendees have had the added bonus of seeing Prince Harry playing for his father’s side:  The Prince of Wales team.  In case anyone is interested, this year’s match was Argentina vs England, and Argentina won with a final score of 12 -5.

Among the 30,000 guests that attended the Cartier Polo event this past weekend were:  actress Anna Friel, whose low-cut dress provided one too many “side boob” shots, ex Spice Girl Gerri Halliwell, who wore a mini, white see-through dress, actress Neve Campell whose mustard-colored dress did nothing against her pale, pasty skin, Sting’s actress-daughter Fuschia Summer, who actually looked perfect, as well as Prince Charles himself. Ironically there was no mention of anyone wearing Cartier jewelry or Cartier watches. Hmmm.

Arnaud Bamberger, Cartier’s managing director, said: “I’m so proud that we have supported this day for a quarter of a century. Ok, well being “proud” doesn’t pay the bills, so why doesn’t Cartier work this gathering of the rich and famous to their advantage?

Cartier spends all this money on fancy food and bubbles but what do they really get out of it? Why don’t they erect a “mini boutique” where guests can wander in and view a grand selection of Cartier watches?

With all the money floating around, selling a couple thousand watches would be a cinch. And while they’re at it, why doesn’t Cartier produce a commemorative Polo watch that the company can give to the winning team and sell as “souvenirs”?

Two bizarre, new watch collections were recently been launched: Dexter Sinister’s Hex watch collection and the new “Star Wars” Limited Edition collection.

The Hex by Dexter Sinister is a watch with a need for speed. Jaeger-LeCoultre, a fine manufacturer of watches and Alfred Dunhill, a fine manufacturer of cigarettes, have joined forces to create two new watches called the Dunhill Facet and the Dunhill Classic. Both companies are part of the Richemont SA luxury group.

The Dunhill Facet features the Jaeger-LeCoultre caliber 822. The case is available in white or rose gold and measures 36mm x 50mm. The Dunhill Classic measures 38 mm, comes with a white or rose gold case and features the caliber 896 by Jaeger caliber 896.

Jaeger Le-Coultre has a long history of creating and producing calibers. Since the company’s founding in 1833, it has produced over 1,000 different calibers, varying in shape, levels of thickness and degrees of complexity.

So far this summer has been an active one for thieves, as they’ve gone about stealing luxury watches and jewelry around the world. Last week was the Cartier heist on the French Riviera and then the raid of actor Orlando Bloom’s Los Angeles home.

While Bloom was in New York filming a new flick, someone with know-how busted into his home and stole about $500,000 worth of valuables, including pieces from his esteemed collection of watches. One of the watches taken was an ultra-rare $250,000 Rolex Milgauss from the 1950s.

“The Milgauss that Orlando had was one of the rarest, most important and most sought-after watches in the world of watch collecting, easily worth $250,000,” Robert Maron, chairman of Manhattan-based watch dealer Antiquorum Auctioneers, told the Daily News.

It’s been noted that Bloom, even though young at 32, has an incredible eye for vintage watches, buying only the best and had become quite the collector over the years. Maron said “It’s a sad day for collectors. We want to preserve as many of these watches as we can. So many have already vanished.”
Not only was Bloom good at selecting high-end watches, he was also quite generous in giving them away. Just last month, at a benefit for Unicef, Bloom auctioned off four watches from his personal collection, including another rare Rolex, this one being a 1973 Explorer II “Steve McQueen.”

Although Orland must be upset about the robbery, jewelry was also stolen, at least he’s still lucky in love and continues to date Victoria Secret model Miranda Kerr.
