2013 Tag Heuer Aquaracer 500m Ceramic Chronograph Review

The future is here—at least for Tag Heuer. Pictures are already circulating the web of their new 2013 Aquaracer 500m Ceramic Chronograph Calibre 16. With a redesigned bezel and a helium escape valve, this watch is bringing Tag Heuer into the New Year a few months ahead of time. The latest model is more sleek and polished than the earlier version and makes for a more elegant design element than the previous models.

The Calibre 16 blends polished surfaces against the horizontal design on the dial face, creating a nice visual counterpoint without overwhelming the piece. Some of the earlier models relied almost too heavily on the design patterns, which made the dial face very busy, but the latest 2013 instead uses the lining to act as a counterpoint. This watch is designed for adventure: with scratch resistant sapphire crystal dial window and anti-reflective treatment, this timepiece will be durable enough to suit all your diving needs.

The unidirectional bezel, chronograph, and date functions are handy, as is the thicker bezel. The dial window and the bezel will be more heavy duty in this version that in the earlier models, ensuring a greater water resistance. The entire watch is beautifully polished, which is a nice juxtaposition against the scalloped edges and duller texture of the rubber strap bracelet (though if rubber isn’t your thing, you can always opt for the stainless steel bracelet instead). The ceramic bezel adds to the elegant sophistication of the piece. It can be tricky to maintain the balance of elegance and sporty appeal in a diving watch, as the timepieces must combine many functions and complications necessary to divers without impeding readability and the overall look of the design.

However, the 2013 Aquaracer manages to find this balance through the mixture of textures and use of fine materials on the watch face. By simplifying the and toning down some of the subtle touches, the watch has a much greater impact than some of the earlier models and is certainly something to look forward to from Tag Heuer. A few of the pieces have been released, but the watch is not out for the public as of yet. Though not out on the market yet, it’s a piece to look forward to for the next year. It’s hard to believe just how quickly the New Year will arrive, but with new and exciting timepieces like the Tag Heuer Aquaracer Calibre 16, it’ll be something to look forward to.
